White USC professor, 83, refuses to apologize after saying her career would have been better if she was black and lesbian - prompting attendees at female historians conference to walk out

A white USC professor is under fire after she said during a recent conference that her career and life would be easier if she were black and a lesbian.

Lois Banner, a professor emerita of women's history at the University of Southern California, spoke during the Berkshire Conference of Women Historians on Friday.

Banner, 83, reportedly said she wished she were a lesbian because they had great communities and that her career would have been better if she were black.

'You won't change my mind, I'm 84 years old,' Banner allegedly said, refusing to apologize. Her words were shared by Stephanie Narrow, a student in attendance.

According to conference guests, Banner's antics came just moments after a black professor had spoken on racism and exclusion in the academic space.

The shocking statements were documented by Narrow, a doctoral student who attended the Friday plenary session where Banner spoke.

She wrote that the event 'took a turn' after Banner - who she did not initially name - shared her extremely controversial opinions.

'A white senior scholar at the 50th anniversary plenary VERY publicly, and unapologetically, said that she wished she was Black so her professional life would be easier,' Narrow tweeted out Friday night.

The student said that the professor - who has a Ph.D. from Columbia University - was shunned for the comments which caused an uproar.

'She was immediately called out for her blatantly racist remarks, and refused to apologize, let alone listen, to the reason why her remarks were horrifying wrong.'

Narrow went on to say that the 'room was shaken,' calling the feeling that rippled through the auditorium 'palpable.'

The student did not name Banner as the professor who had made the startling remarks until several hours later, but stated she had confirmed Banner's identity.

Did she lie about her age? The story says that she is 83 but she claims to be 84. How often does a woman claim to be older than she really is?

At 83, her idea of liberal or progressive or edgy, was probably being a woman and smoking in public or not putting on nylons.

It’s just as well they walked out — those that can’t deal with the truth don’t belong in academia

So… what a black professor saying I with I were white and straight then I’d have all the power is NOT racist?!

Because I guarantee you that’s what they’re saying.

They’ve completely misunderstood her remarks as she was complementing them on providing deeper and richer communities than she had access to.

I’ve seen this at my work - there’s the women’s group, the minorities group, the lgbtqia stand alone group… each of which gets corporate support and additional funding and discussion to help their careers. Know what I get? Nothin. I have to do all the work and discovery and career advancement on my own.

These are the kind of Rock-The-Boat remarks comedian Roseanne should have made. They are instantly understandable, whether one wants to understand them or not.
I hope the elder Lady does not apologize.
Even if she did, so many delicate PC feathers have already been ruffled, she would now be seen as down right
Deplorable!

Lois Banner, a professor emerita of women's history

She thought she could contain the bullshit to her own brand of bullshit.

She was mistaken.

There’s one of those in the White House who struggles to gain the second digit on her IQ. So, yup, that USC prof is right.

In its June 24, 2023, Statement to the Museum of the American Revolution: the radical leftist, sexist and woketardian Berkshire Conference of Women Historians proclaimed;
The Berkshire Conference stands with the Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender History in its condemnation of the Museum of the American Revolution’s (MoAR) decision to rent event space to the Moms For Liberty (MFL), a known hate group.

LOL! All my office had was the “staff” group and we had to beg for $50 bucks to hold a staff support luncheon once a year. And, if someone else suddenly decided they wanted the lounge on that day, we were booted out. We all brought a covered dish, drinks, and paper products. The $50.00 was for the gift certificate for the main door prize (I think the big boss paid for it from his own pocket since it wasn’t a legitimate business expense). The staff committee purchased small dollar store items for the three or four other gifts awarded. It was the only time the peons from all departments got together on an event not organized by the “bosses”. Shrug! It was a moral booster and we enjoyed it greatly!.

You have to admit she has a point. White employees are expected to perform or else be written up and penalized during the end of the year bonuses and salary increases. They are expected to be on time and do the job requested in a timely manner.

Corporate does not dare issue the smallest bonus or raise to a person “of color” for that person will somehow find out and the lawsuits will soon be filed. And, they know better than to criticize those in “marginalized” communities for being late or taking too many sick days. Doing such is evidence of white supremacy.

This is a problem between women. Like the female athletes displaced by “trans women.” In fact, probably the one has a lot to do with why there’s the other.

Hard to figure why people are supposed to be smart could not have seen this coming. Maybe they’re not so smart.
