Ukrainian Marine Corps is a new branch of the Armed Forced formed on May 23, 2023. Ukrainian Marines were previously part of the Naval Forces, but due to ongoing Russian invasion and specific needs of Ukrainian marines, they were separated from the Navy and a new branch was created – the Marine Corps. To support the creation of the Marine Corps branch, the officials have decided to unify symbology of all separate marine units and presented a new visual identity of Marine Corps. All emblems now follow the same mix of semi-light and dark blue color background with a silver symbol in the middle.

The enemy focuses its main efforts on Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiyivka, and Maryinka directions, heavy battles are ongoing. Over 30 combat engagements took place during the day.
This is stated in the evening report by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“During the day, the aviation of the defense forces launched 14 strikes on enemy personnel concentration areas. Missile and artillery units struck two areas of concentration of enemy manpower, weapons and military equipment and five artillery systems on firing positions,” the report reads.
The General Staff emphasizes that the Russian Federation continues to wage the war of aggression. Despite the significant losses, the enemy does not give up its plans to capture the territories of Ukraine completely.
In Volyn and Polissia directions, the operational situation has not changed significantly. There are no signs of the formation of offensive groups. Certain units of the Armed Forces of Belarus perform tasks in the areas bordering Ukraine. The redeployment of Russian units, which underwent training at Belarusian training grounds, has begun for their further participation in the military operations in the territory of Ukraine.
The enemy maintains its military presence in Sivershchyna and Slobozhanshchyna directions. Airstrikes were launched on the city of Sumy and the area of Katerynivka in Sumy region. Mortars and artillery were fired at more than 10 settlements, in particular, Bachivsk, Khodyne, Katerynivka in Sumy region; Veterynarne, Kozacha Lopan, Budarky in Kharkiv region.
In Kupyansk direction, Petro-Ivanivka, Fyholivka, Novomlynsk, Dvorichna, Kupyansk in Kharkiv region came under enemy artillery and mortar fire.
In Lyman direction, more than 10 settlements were hit with artillery, in particular, Nevske, Bilohorivka in Luhansk region; Verkhniokamyanske, Berestove, Rozdolivka in Donetsk region.
In Bakhmut direction, the enemy carried out unsuccessful offensive operations southeast of Orikhovo-Vasylivka and west of Bakhmut.
More than 10 settlements, including Kramatorsk, Kostiantynivka, Vasiukivka, Bohdanivka, Chasiv Yar, Klishchiyivka, and Bila Hora in Donetsk region, came under enemy artillery fire.
In Avdiyivka direction, the enemy fired artillery at more than 10 settlements, including Keramik, Avdiyivka, Sieverne, Vodiane, Nevelske in Donetsk region.
In Maryinka direction, despite enemy airstrikes and artillery fire, Ukrainian defenders repelled all 14 enemy attacks near Maryinka. The enemy shelled more than 10 settlements, in particular, Krasnohorivka, Heorhiyivka, Maksymilyanivka, Pobieda in Donetsk region.
In Shakhtarske direction, the aggressor launched an airstrike near Blahodatne in Donetsk region. More than 10 settlements, in particular, Blahodatne, Vuhledar, Bohoyavlenka, Shakhtarske, Zolota Nyva, and Vuhledar in Donetsk region, were hit.
In Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions, the Russian army focuses its main efforts on preventing the advance of Ukrainian troops. The enemy fired artillery on more than 30 settlements, including Huliaypilske, Bilohirya, Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia region; Marhanets, Nikopol in Dnipropetrovsk region; Antonivka, Kherson in Kherson region.

Update on the conflict in Ukraine for July 3, 2023:
- Ukraine’s offensive reaches the 1 month mark and has made relatively little progress beyond the security zones ahead of Russia’s main defenses;
- This is mainly owed to Russian mine fields and Ukraine’s inability to clear them while under fire;

The Ministry of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, together with partners from Denmark, determined priorities for the reconstruction of Mykolaiv region and specific projects that will be implemented in the near future.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration – Minister of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Oleksandr Kubrakov, Ukrinform reports with reference to the Ministry’s press service.
“Ukraine–Denmark partnership in the reconstruction of Mykolaiv region is one of the vivid examples of interstate understanding, quick decision-making, and involvement in the process. Together, we have built a model in which both government structures, business, and patrons can participate in reconstruction. The priority of cooperation is projects to rebuild critical infrastructure, in particular, heat and water supply systems. It is important to complete them before the autumn-winter period,” Kubrakov noted.
He added that Denmark has allocated $40 million for Ukraine’s reconstruction since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The aid is aimed at restoring the heat supply to Mykolaiv and solving critical needs in the energy sector.
The partners also handed over two batches of construction equipment in the amount of 37 and 50 units.
To overcome the consequences of the explosion at the Kakhovka HPP, Denmark already handed over two high-capacity pumps, 35 tents, three boats with transport rafts, and a generator.
Five tankers to collect and transport water from the flooded areas, as well as several generators worth almost $1 million, were also sent through the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
As reported, on March 7, 2023, a memorandum on partnership was signed between Denmark, Mykolaiv city, and Mykolaiv region. The key areas of cooperation are infrastructure, effective governance, maritime industry, transport, urban planning, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, green transition, youth and culture.

On Monday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the political, military and humanitarian situation in Ukraine.

During the conversation, Zelenskyy thanked the German government for its military support, in particular, strengthening the air defence and artillery of Ukraine, and Scholz confirmed Berlin’s “constant and unwavering solidarity” with Kyiv.
Scholz “announced that Germany will continue to support Ukraine, in particular in the military sphere, in close coordination with European and international partners,” the office said.
The leaders of Germany and Ukraine also called for the extension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative under the auspices of the UN after 17 July and agreed to “continue a constructive exchange of views”, in particular with the aim of “global support for a peaceful settlement”.
Zelenskyy added that he and Scholz “coordinated positions on the eve of the NATO Summit in Vilnius and discussed the formats of future security guarantees for Ukraine,” as well as “shared their assessments of recent events in Russia and Belarus”.
“I am particularly grateful for the active implementation of the previous €2.7 billion defense package and for the €8.8 billion multi-year defense support plan for Ukraine,” the head of Ukraine said.

Switzerland will allocate an additional 5.5 million Swiss francs (about EUR 5.6 million) to renovate and refurbish 30 schools in Ukraine affected by hostilities.
That’s according to a statement posted on the website of the Federal Council of Switzerland, Ukrinform reports.
Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis has increased Switzerland’s support for the ‘Decentralization for Improved Democratic Education’ (DECIDE) project by CHF 5.5 million in order to rehabilitate around 30 schools in the regions directly affected by the fighting in Chernihiv, Odesa and Poltava.
The project involves the installation of secure multi-purpose classrooms to ensure uninterrupted learning, even during air raid warnings.
The rehabilitation and upgrading of schools in municipalities that have long-standing partnerships with the SDC will provide pupils with a safe and appropriate environment for face-to-face classroom learning. This initiative will not only strengthen local public services but also bolster the education system’s resilience in crisis situations. The continuation of face-to-face teaching will also contribute to the integration of displaced children and their families into host communities.
This additional Swiss contribution will also enable the DECIDE project to provide technical and pedagogical support for online education for displaced children and children living in areas particularly vulnerable to hostilities where in-person teaching is unfeasible.
“The aim is to ensure that nearly 15,000 schoolchildren have access to a decent and safe education,” the Federal Council said.
It added that Russian military aggression had dealt a severe blow to Ukraine’s education sector. Thousands of schools across the country have been damaged or destroyed, and many teachers have fled the conflict zones, thereby disrupting the education of millions of students.
The Federal Council also emphasized that Switzerland’s support for schools is part of the CHF 140 million aid plan for Ukraine announced by the Federal Council in February and approved by Parliament.

In Ukraine, preparatory work has begun on the construction of main water pipelines for the regions affected by the explosion of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP).

The project involves the construction of main water pipelines Karachun reservoir – Kryvyi Rih – Southern reservoir, Marhanets – Nikopol, Khortytsia (DVS2) – Tomakivka, Kubrakov reports.
The water supply system will consist of three main water supply lines with a length of almost 150 km. Implementation of the project will provide water to at least 1 million people from Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Mykolaiv and Kherson oblasts, he added.
“The water line will literally be laid from scratch, international partners are involved in the procurement and logistics of pipes of the required diameter and high-capacity pumps. We are setting ourselves an ambitious task – to complete the work as soon as possible,” the minister said.
He reminded that the government has allocated 1.5 billion hryvnias from the Fund for Dealing with the Aftermath of Armed Aggression, and the Reconstruction Agency has taken over the implementation of pipeline construction projects.

Another 13 international companies leave the Russian market in a month

In June, another 13 international companies left the Russian market, including Michelin Group, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of car tires, the German company Bosch, and the American chemical corporation 3M.

DETAILS: In general, as of today, 254 (7.7% of the total number of records in the database or 17.6% of companies that received income in Russia in 2022) international companies have completely ceased operations in Russia. Also, 1,191 (35.9% out of the total number) of foreign businesses closed operations and declared their intention to leave the country.
At the same time, 1,352 (40.8% of the total) companies that were monitored by the KSE Institute are not yet going to leave the Russian market, and will continue to work without any changes. Another 519 (15.7% of the total) foreign businesses have suspended new investments in Russia and continue to wait, the KSE report.
According to the monitoring data, 254 international companies that completely left the Russian market had been providing at least 417,500 jobs, their annual income was US$62.2 billion, the capital was estimated at US$28.6 billion, while the value of the assets of these companies reached US$52.4 billion as of 2021.
At the same time, the international companies that announced their complete exit from Russia had 263,100 employees, US$50.5 billion in annual income, US$18.7 billion in capital, and US$21.2 billion in assets.
“Foreign companies that suspended operations on the Russian market had 99,500 personnel, annual revenue of $25.6bn, $38.1bn in capital and $98.8bn in assets,” the KSE said.
As of the end of June 2023, companies from 35 countries and 39 sectors of the economy have already left the Russian market, according to the KSE Institute: most of them had headquarters in the US, Germany, Finland, the UK and France and worked in the Automotive, Energy, Oil and Gas, Electronics, Consumer Goods and Apparel, Food and Beverage industries.
BACKGROUND:
Eight international companies have completely left the Russian market in May: the German automobile company Volkswagen and the German manufacturer of tires and automotive electronics Continental are among them.
