A woman was found dead after an apparent encounter with a grizzly bear near Yellowstone National Park in Montana on Saturday.
The Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) said investigators confirmed grizzly bear tracks at the scene, adding the investigation is ongoing.
The woman was discovered on the Buttermilk Trail, an area about eight miles west of West Yellowstone.
The Custer Gallatin National Forest, which borders Yellowstone in southeastern Montana, issued an emergency closure of the area “for human safety.”

Well, she did feed it anyway.
Is carry legal in Yellowstone?
That is probably the case, unfortunately.
Pretty sure DJT got legal carry in National Parks pushed through. Sounds like this was outside the park, though. Probably a bunny-hugger that wouldn’t carry if her life depended on it...and these are the results.
Yes, unless Pedo Jo changed the rules.
“Is carry legal in Yellowstone?”
Yes. But you cannot fire it even in self defense:

Montana has constitutional concealed carry but a few towns/cities (like Bozeman) require a concealed carry permit.
It’s a pity about this lady...this happened in my county.
Now that their is a record number of Grizzly Bears in Yellowstone, it’s a good time to hit the trails.
Little bells, check. Smells like pepper, check.
Not very far from me. My house backs up to the Custer/Gallatin. Spend lots of time hunting, fishing and hiking there alone and and with others. You’ve got to watch your ass. I carry a 10mm in chest rig and bear spray at all times.
Ping to Dean!
It is way past time for a hunt but The Sierra Club is blocking it in court.
Right. Because grizzled are just cute little pets.
How anyone could think someone needed to offer food to a grizzly to be attacked is beyond me.
You would like the left.
These are apex predators. Over populated. Running out of elk as they have decimated a 10,000 elk herd.
There is no need to blame this victim.
I live in Bozeman and that’s not correct. You can conceal carry here without a CHL. It’s federal buildings and certain other restricted locations that require a permit.
Lol
The kids and I hiked the 7 mile hole in Yellowstone to try the World renowned cutthroat fishing. When we made it down to the , two outdoorsman looked at us like we were from Mars. He asked us where our Bear protection was? I showed him my 9mm. His response…”that will only piss them off! You need Bear Spray!”
Oh look a cute grizzly bear just like yogi bear and boo boo on tv.
How many bells and cans of bear spray did they find nearby?
It is truly a shame that this woman suffered and died in such a manner. It had to be truly horrifying. However, the feds have basically outlawed protecting yourself in any manner against the grizzly bears.
I carry a Kimber 1911 .45cal ACP w/ 230gr FMJs, and especially my scoped AA “Beowulf” .50cal w/ 425 FMJs.
Actually, National Park carry was signed by (of all people)...
OBAMA!
I think it was part of some huge ‘must sign’ budget bill.
