The Flat Earther next door: These are the US states with highest share of conspiracy theorists, based on residents' internet search history

The Flat Earther next door: These are the US states with highest share of conspiracy theorists, based on residents' internet search history... so do YOU live in a flat or round state? Alaskans were the most interested in 'Flat Earth' theories, Google searches show New Jersey natives entertained 'Flat Earth' claims least, per same search data

Earth's greatest minds have known our world is round since at least as far back as the day Pythagoras made his calculations in ancient Greece over 2,000 years ago.

But as you might have guessed from fighting with relatives and old friends on Facebook, as many as 10 percent of Americans still believe the earth is flat, according to survey data compiled in 2021.

If you're looking for a place offline to get away from conversations about 'Flat Earth' conspiracy theories (or maybe where to go to join your fellow true believers), a new analysis of Google searches across all 50 US states might help.

Die-hard 'Flat Earthers' may want to bundle up before relocating to Alaska, whose residents searched the most for information on the widely discredited theory.

And those looking to move on from the 'Flat Earth' debate entirely may want to find space in the densely populated state of New Jersey, which had the lowest interest in researching the topic online per 10,000 residents.

Find out below if you live in a 'Flat State' or a 'Round State.'

Despite experiencing the famed ' midnight sun ' and other seasonal phenomena confirming the earth's round shape, Alaskans proved to be the most curious about 'Flat Earth' theories, typing in 23,040 flat earth searches last year alone, or 314.33 searches per 10,000 residents

The present Flat Earth heresy was conjured up by obama.

Of course searches for “Russiagate” and the sort were not included since the authors believed them to be fact.

It’s interesting that the Mississippi River is a clear dividing line: The most flat-earth friendly states are west of the river; and the least are east of the river. It’s almost as if there is some correlation to magnetic north and declination (East is Least and West is Best; Least meaning less, or subtract, and Best meaning more, or add).

The author is trying to discredit conspiracy theorists.
I wonder how much the Illuminati paid him to do that.

The premise might be wrong, what if the search was to have a big laugh?

Searches are not belief.

Lots of people go to the "flat earth" sites to see the insanity, and to mock the flat earthers.

Sure looks like being a conspiracy nut is “bi-partisan”. LOL. I’m shocked that Nevada and my home state of Arizona aren’t at the top. Heh.

Earth’s greatest minds have known our world is round since at least as far back as the day Pythagoras made his calculations in ancient Greece over 2,000 years ago.

Pythagoras learned that from math passed down from the Egyptian Archaic Period and Old Kingdom Egypt during his years living in Egypt.

The-world-is-round math is incorporated in the design of the monuments on the Giza Plateau and in the construction of the Great Pyramid.

The earth is spherical. Period.

That said, the article and depictions denigrate the flat-earthers view, to the point of being just as rabidly radical and unbelievable.

If I understand the FE'ers point, the "flat earth" has the "north pole" at the center, and is surrounded by an ice wall (Antarctica).

The FE'ers cannot explain to my satisfaction things like the Foucault pendulum, coriolis, eclipses. Plus, can't be entirely flat, anyways, otherwise there would be no night.

But, to say FE'ers are nutz while using a ridiculous FE map that no FE would recognize is just an agenda-based article.

You are exactly correct.

The author is attempting to equate "flat earthers" with conservative politics.

Some very intelligent people believe in incredibly silly theories.

One of the smartest people I knew (dead now), a serious genius, believed in the "hollow earth" idea. He never took a basic physics course. He was mostly self-taught, and a genius in his field (farming).

Possibly Obama, but it is probable that the Flat Earth movement has been promoted by intelligence agencies to discredit people who disagree with the mainstream narrative. The same is possibly true about the “no moon landing” movement. I don’t doubt that there are sincere believers in these theories but they are so outlandish that people who believe in that can be lumped in with people who,for example, question the official narrative on the Kennedy assassination. I have read that the very term conspiracy theory was invented by the CIA in order to discredit people who did not believe that Oswald was the sole shooter in the Kennedy assassination.

The current, most damaging "flat earth" theory is the neo-Marxist set of "Critical" theories, such as Critical Race Theory. They form what is a secular fundamentalist religion.

No matter how many times their theories fail in the real world, no matter how much suffering and death they produce, they always believe "we just did not do enough, we need to do more".

I should not call the “Critical” theories a “secular religion”. The true believers are, more properly, a cult.

Flat earth belief is actually a modern phenomenon. Various movements began in the early 1900’s, but today’s variety is mostly based on YouTube videos that have gained a following. The world has no shortage of gullible idiots.

See the earth is flat ... somebody even got a picture..

but on a more serious note...
I have run elevation and topo on miles and miles of lake front for development surveys. I have never seen a curve.
I'm not saying the earth is flat ... it's big ... but how far would I have to run a level before I see the curve?
I have even thought of just starting on a beach some where and running till I see it. Has any one done that?

And while we are on fringe questions ...
if I take a picture on earth with the moon behind me , it's a little ball in the sky .. right?
If I take a picture on the moon with the earth behind me, shouldn't it take up most of the sky behind me?
Some things just seem a bit out of wack .... I'm sure it's just me, but sometimes it makes me wonder?
