Frequently, I read where a politician like John Kerry; Al Gore; Joe Biden; or António Guterres, the secretary general of the U.N., has stated: "We must keep the increase of the average temperature of the Earth to 1.5°C or less; it has already risen 1.1°C since the beginning of the industrial age." The implication of such a statement is that the Earth is on a path to thermal destruction if we humans don't take action to save the planet. Aside from exhibiting the height of man's hubris to think that we could control any basic aspect of nature; such a statement demonstrates either a profound ignorance about fundamental physics or an intent to deceive. I suspect that it is both.
The concept of an average temperature of the Earth is a figment of the climate scientist's imagination, conjured up to try to prove a fraudulent hypothesis. The Earth has no average temperature; the temperature of the Earth is different at every point in time and space. The Earth is never in thermal equilibrium. It should be apparent to anyone that if you add two temperatures together and average them, you get a meaningless number. A calculation of similar value would be to determine the average ZIP code in the United States to locate the average American city (49663 — Manton, Mich., pop. 1,324).

There is no “correct temperature” for the earth because it is always changing.
I’m glad to see “average temperature” beginning to be exposed. I can see no usable definition for it an as already stated in previous replies, it’s a pretty meaningless concept without what methinks would be a complex definition.
We have to be active in pushing back on the childish reporting provided us by journalism majors and always mention the fact that the ONLY way that a “researcher” will get gubmit funding is for them to avoid casting any doubt on existing climate fear porn, poor science, and laughable math analysis.

This summer, while the climate change fanatics were screeching about the hottest year evuh on earth, there was a snowstorm in Johannesburg, South Africa. First snowfall in more than a decade.
Yes it does, as data collection and statistics would allow such a scientific calculation. All one need do is locate the world's anus and insert a rectal thermometer, and then measure constantly. Wikipedia is of assistance here....

You couldn’t get an accurate answer to this question even if you could resurrect all of the signatories of the Declaration today and ask them this question. Instead, you would learn that the temperature was one of the following: (1) hot, (2) very hot, (3) kind of mild, or (4) unseasonably cool. That’s it. Good luck with that “science.”

The news about the snowstorm in Johannesburg, SA was nearly impossible to find. The story was suppressed because the media were hollering about the erf’s record heat. Didn’t fit their agenda. Therefore, it didn’t happen.
Well, If at any given simultaneous point in time, temperature readings were recorded for many points at various longitudes and latitudes distributed at regularly spaced intervals, the readings could be summed and then divided by the number of readings. That resultant value would be an approximate average temperature for the whole earth for the specific instant.
In the USA, we have NOAA temperature data stretching back a very long time. That data has high and low values for specific dates at specific stations. Those values can be used to derive an average value for the date. Surprisingly, the average calculated thusly is quite consistent over time. my studies revealed that by calculating an average for say January 5 over a 50 year period and comparing that value with the calculated value for the current year there can be variance. I learned that for the years in question, the average temp for a specific January date was slightly in excess of the historic average.
I actually did all that back in the late 80’s. The result was that for four or five years in a row, the current average value marginally exceeded the historic value.
What that meant to me was that there was no variation in the color patterns of 100+ Wooly Worms correlating to the “warm” weather that year. And, the data thus applied did not show that there was wooly worm color variation in October adequate to predict a warm or cold winter

Seasonal adjustment. During the hot part of the year the concern is for humidity preventing perspiration to augment cooling. Heat stroke can be fatal in a hot, high humidity environment. In Winter, the concern is "wind chill". Still air exposes flesh to the ambient temperature. Adding wind, additional heat from the skin surface is carried away more quickly.
The "ambient" temperature without consideration for humidity or wind speed is the officially recorded temperature. The "feels like" accounts for impacts of humidity and wind on living creatures. I watch the dew point on my weather instruments. The ambient temperature can not drop lower than the dew point as that is where the water in the atmosphere changes phase from gas to liquid...fog. I have fruit trees with unharvested fruit at this time of year. The dew point alerts me to the urgency to harvest the fruit before it can freeze.
I like to say ask them “average defined how?”
