Dire Straits-Telegraph Road Live- aLCHEMY Tour 1983
youtube ^ | 1983 | Dire Straits

My memories of this song are from the tape I had of it and other "Drive Fast" songs back in that time. I remember listening to it driving in the very early morning to go to the 12 Hours of Sebring sports car race in Florida. Deserted back roads in a 911 turbo going way over the speed limit for many years and never pulled over. I don't even remember my top speed, but would not want to post it.

I turned 20 in 1978. Dire Straits made a dramatic and long lasting impact on me then that continues to this day.

Along with The Cars, Talking Heads and Styx. (Fooling Yourself/Angry Young Man song)

IMHO this is one of the greatest live performances ever. For me the best Knopfler solo of all.

Love Over Gold is the best Dire Straits album.

Saw them at the Beacon Theater in NYC around 1980 timeframe and my only regret is not seeing them again. Knopfler only got better. Thank you for posting this.

Telegraph Road/Private Investigations, is one of the best 1-2 punches in album history.

I have seen many great bands, but I never saw them. I may have had chance to see Knopfler, but did not.

“Money for Nothing” is still one of my favorite songs - although it would now be banned - or the lines changed...

“See the little fagg** with the earring and the makeup?

Yeah buddy, that’s his own hair

That little fagg** got his own jet airplane

That little fagg**, he’s a millionaire”

I love that song too. But, Sultans of Swing is still my favorite all time song by any band.

That was a very nice piece!

Saw Dire Straits in July, 1985... it was a 4 night stand with Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. It was in a university stadium and the temperature got so incredibly hot, people were passing out.

As good as Dire Straits was, it was Stevie Ray Vaughn who blew up the place and stole the show.... put on such an outstanding concert that folks were still yelling for him halfway through Dire Straits.

Thanks for the memories.

One of my favorites also.

Great lyrics, sound, guitar solo... Just a fantastic song.
