This stuff (almost) happened back in 1978.
I needed a second year of a language and had no room in my schedule for it so it was arranged that I would go by after school and pick up the assignment and tapes, do the lesson at home, and turn it in the next day. Our French teach (no jokes, please) was 25 years old and really attractive. She also sported a big engagement ring.
One day when I went in to pick up my assignment she was crying over her checkbook. She couldn’t get it to balance and it had brought her to tears. She explained that her fiance had used to do this stuff but he had cheated on her and they were no longer engaged and the tears flowed harder.
Long story short, I balanced her checkbook and that was the start of my helping her with little things...getting her oil changed, finding a plumber, getting car insurance...he had taken care of everything and she was clueless. One late afternoon, after everyone had gone home, I was helping her carry stuff to her car. After putting stuff in her trunk I turned around and she was right there and she kissed me...romantically. I had a girlfriend and immediately felt guilty. She had taken my hand and was pulling me toward the car. I said I had to get to work - not a lie, but really convenient - and bolted. From that point on she made it really clear that she wanted a physical relationship. I didn’t want to jeopardize my grade, so I never said “no”, but I never said “yes”. I just made sure we were never in a position to be alone for any period of time.
It never takes long for the humorless scolds to show up.

I taught at a HS where one of the English teachers was a 6’ tall blond wonder woman. Linda Carter in her prime figure. All the students treated her with respect, and the boys didn’t dare make comments about her where they could be overheard. The reason, her husband was the owner and sensai in the most badass martial arts school in town. She conducted the female self defense courses. All the girls in school would rat out any guy who implied anything about her that was negative. It was amusing to watch her walk down the halls in a nice dress and see all the teenage boys trying not to get busted looking.
17 isn't exactly a child. My first few months of service in the Navy were before my 18th birthday. How was the kid's life ruined?

I personally know two women who had abortions; both ended up mental cases. Both had decent parents. I dated the sister of one of them.
The other I actually dated, but correctly sensed ‘damaged goods’, and moved on. 30 years later, when I ventured onto the ‘classmates website’, I contacted her, hoping her life had turned out ok. It did... over 20 years (and repeated really bad relationships) later.

My “first time” was with a 24 year old. I was 15, almost 16.
Then I started dating a girl my age and we had no problem acting like rabbits.
Yeah, my friends thought I was nuts, too.
Her life is ruined. She ruined her own life. She will always be known as a child molester and be on a list. Jobs will be hard to get. She may lose her family and she will go to jail.
Yes, the kid will survive.
