It was based upon Baltimore’s homicide unit, not sure if it was filmed there, but I assumed it was. Baltimore was close to D.C. when I lived in No. Va. at the time is was on.Yes it was filmed in baltimore. The building that served as their office / HQ was on Thames Street right on the harbor in Fells Point. It is gone now replaced by a luxury hotel owned by Mr Under-Armor.

Well, I always thought it was, but it was long enough ago that I couldn’t remember even if I had confirmed it was at the time. I remember watching it, but most likely not on a regular must watch basis. I do remember enjoying watching it. But being younger I had a lot more events competing for my attention. Some enjoyable and some not. 🙂

Such a brilliant actor. He was electrifying in Homicide. So sorry for his family and friends, which probably includes his co-stars from Men of a Certain Age, Ray Romano and Scott Bakula, as well as the casts of Homicide and Brooklyn 9-1-1.

Homicide was an acquired taste. Purposely anti-formulaic. But his character interrogating suspects could be more suspenseful than any car chase. His performance in the episode where he played Detective Pembleton having a stroke and falling onto a table in front of his colleagues was so riveting...

FWIW, I moved to the Baltimore area while
Homicide: Life on the Street was filming, and once or twice I ran into Yaphet Kotto in the grocery store. Very reserved, but polite when my kid asked for his autograph (unlike when my kid asked for Tom Hanks' autograph in Philadelphia).
I guess Yaphet and André are up there comparing notes now—“Heavenside: Life Is Complete.” RIP to both.
Thanks for the link, bert.

Yeah, I remember him too. Not surprised about Tom Hanks.

You have some cool stories about meeting famous people. I remember your post about the difference in meeting Denzel Washington and Tom Hanks when they were filming "Philadelphia." Maybe Hanks was never the nice guy people believe he is.
All I remember about "Homicide: Life on the Streets" is that the show was well-written and the actors were great. Andre and Yaphet were perfect in their roles. All the actors were. I think Giancarlo Esposito was on the show at one point.
I guess Yaphet and André are up there comparing notes now
I hope they're having a party with Richard Belzer, who I see also died this year, and the other cast members who've passed on.
Too bad about Andre. He was only 61. I hate cancer.

I do have a knack for running into famous people. I've met scads of them without going out of my way—it is uncanny. Hanks and Washington were filming
Philadelphia a block from my regular stomping grounds. My daydream is to be in an elevator and have Bob Dylan walk in, alone, but I'm running out of time.
There was a news story a couple of years ago about Bob Dylan wandering around a residential area at the Jersey shore the afternoon before his concert, having gotten off his tour bus without his ID or phone, and wearing a hoodie. He was arrested by a young female cop who had never heard of him and didn't believe whatever he said to her. Of course he often looks bedraggled. When she walked him into the station, the older cops went out of their minds—LOL! I imagine Bob just totally went along and grooved on it. I also guess he didn't have any weed on him.
But I digress. Yes, I remember Esposito so well from Homicide, and of course Richard Belzer, also from Law & Ordure (it has become unwatchably woke.)
There have been a lot of people with latent cancers or in remission who have had it return after the jab. A pox on that entire thing.

Fun story about Bob Dylan. I can picture it happening. :-)
I don’t remember ever meeting anyone famous, with the exception of a couple of athletes when I was a kid.
