Well, as I had suspected, it looks as if everyone is too distracted by Christmas itself to notice this big little treasure buried at the base of a log, from line 3508 on down. Even NASA neglected to announce it on Ingenuity's Flight Log.

But what's Flight 70 if not a fitting offering toward the advancement of recreational mathematics?

In the past hour, while I had been suddenly detoured for a mighty rescue (a "golden-crowned kinglet" was down hard after hitting the door window; first time I'd ever seen such a bird at all)...

As for the tiny bird... he slowly recovered, sitting and then standing in my hand. He must have liked my hand on a cold day, because he stayed put for a long while. I eventually set him down so I could go back inside for my sweater and camera.

I picked him back up, and after he posed for the pictures, he flew directly to "David" (the butterfly bush. Well no, I don't normally name plants, but I named it for its name, plus for attracting monarchs. Buddleja davidii)

Always some ‘living parable’ going on.

Such a precious little bird. A variety so small, I wondered if it were a baby, which made no sense this time of year but hey, it’s the new year.

Besides, we do have a strange case of little kid squirrels running around. Two red and two gray. I’d been seeing mommy squirrels late, way out of season, so I’m glad the little tykes are doing well and learning their way around.

Everybody gets along!

He was quiet, but his song was his healing.

I’ve done quite a few of these rescues, but this one was the best. Not only was this my first time seeing a golden-crowned kinglet, what an introduction.

It started out by looking bad, but I could feel his heartbeat right away.

We even had a pretty good conversation. He just didn’t want to say goodbye.

Now I know to keep watch for him!

I'd forgotten all about this mighty rescue until coming here to look up when 70 had finally been updated on the flight log.

A couple of oddities I'm adding here for documentation purposes:

In all the woosh of today's news, I saw that the stats on the flight log had changed. Sticky fingers at JPL perhaps.

What's on there now for the distances:

Leaving the curious to wonder what happened to 71's forward motion?

From the Flight Preview plan that fell way short:

The story we are left with [from the Flight Log as-is] is that forward progress "ended" with Flight 70, although 71 was actually supposed to go forward by ~358 ft.

The last movement now given is a distance that is ~358.. in reverse.

Had some strange, unexpected weather last night. Was supposed to be a little freezing drizzle becoming light rain along with warming temps so no ice build up...

... instead, everything was glazed over like a donut this morning. Yikes.

As dawn arrived I noticed that the huge ornamental grass (a lone specimen in a round clump, over 6 ft. tall) had curled outward all the way over to the ground in a circle, with some sparse shoots remaining upright in the center.

Oh look, a huge crown roast. That's what I described it as when I first saw it. I supposed it had to be just the right coating of ice to take that form. Weird how it had become a giant golden crown, a front and center focal point in the yard.

I've got pics, but couldn't find anything similar from the 'net to post.

Then imagine my surprise when I wandered back over here tonight.

It’ll be interesting what they can find out.

Ginny got a real whack, yet is communicating and taking pictures. Seems a tad inconsistent.

Perhaps they will locate the debris if it didn’t fly off the Moon.

Or it sure looks like Marvin took a big bite.
