pcrm.org is PETA. They want to see all humans die.

Oh, I didn't know that they were connected.   I know that doctor is all over youtube, and claims to have ways to reverse various diseases though eating changes.   Oh well.

While perusing the internet, I notice a consensus among many individuals who align with the doctor’s perspectives in his written works and videos. However, there are dissenting voices suggesting that he tends to exaggerate.

pcrm.org has had a long relationship with Peta. I read somewhere that Neal Barnard was Ingrid Newkirk’s significant other.

I did a 72-hour fast at the beginning of the month, I’m planning to do it again at the beginning of this month. By the second day, I wasn’t even hungry, and had a lot of energy.

The keto rage hasn’t been prevalent long enough to be in a decades old study.

The Keto diet goes back to the 1920s, and studied then mostly as a treatment for epilepsy, but it was actually based on diets that went back to at least 500 B.C.

Fair enough, but apparently this study included “low carb diets” that are not even close to the tiny amounts of carbs fin keto diets.

The first phase of the Atkins diet says no more than 20 grams of carbs a day for 2 weeks. Then if you have been loosing weight, add 5 carbs a day for a week and see if weight is still coming down. If it is, add another daily 5 carbs. If still loosing weight follow that plan until reaching desired weight, Then stay at that carb level until weight starts to increase. Then drop 10 carbs for a week or rwo until back at desired weight.

My son saw some Army research that found 50 grams of carbs a day was good for the average man to maintain good weight.

I moved from 157, BMI 27.5 to 132 in about 6 months. I stuck to mostly 20 g. carbs for several months, then added some. I think I am at 35 g. carbs a day and weight moving between 130 and 137 lbs. as I indulge slightly for celebrations and then am very strict for a few days. I eat about 4 oz. twice a day of meat, fish, fowl, etc. Two cups of salad with greens, diced pepper, green onion, cucumber, etc. with a low carb commercial salad dressing (2 tbs. 1 or 2 g. carb). I usually only use 1 tbs. Occasional 1 slice of bacon and two fried eggs in bacon fat. Or save the bacon fat to fry hamburger, or liver and onions. A cup of cooked vegetables like summer squash, brocolli, snow peas (raw or steamed), etc. with butter. Also use vegetable oils like olive, sesame, or grapeseed for cooking or salads. Then there are the more complicated dishes I cook occasionally, but enough for now.

I am 85 now, but discovered Atkins in 2006. My father had gone to Atkins for prostate cancer treatment around 1990. He got rid of his cancer and faithfully kept taking his supplements and good diet, and died of a stroke at age 90 probably caused by being very angry. I had been trying to get down from 165 lbs. I had crept up while caring for my husband dying of Alzheimers. After a year I was down to 155 from regular food reduction. Then I tried Atkins, Induction Phase, etc, and the weight came off faster. I got careless and weight crept back up to 145 lbs. where I was stable for about 15 years. Hope I can keep it in the upper 120s or 130s for the next 15 years. Moving around is easier when you weigh less.

My son and husband have been doing keto for nearly 6 years now and both have maintained the weight loss. My husband is probably more of a carnivore than keto. I would guess he eats less than 15 carbs a day unless he adds in nuts and cheese. He’s 6’2”, 185

In any case, some epileptics still use the keto diet. My son has not had a seizure in about 5 1/2 years. His pediatric neurologist said several of his patients were only doing keto instead of meds. The last year with that doc, my son came off his meds, but a year later his adult neurologist convinced him to go back on at the lowest dose. He said as a young adult he wouldn’t be able to eat right or get enough sleep (and might drink too much with friends). I was kind of bummed he went back on meds, but he’s an adult. He still does keto 90% of the time. He has to back off every few weeks because he looses to much weight. He’s 5’10” and 150.

We do the Adkins diet and lose weight with no problem. Meat and lots of green veggies and a small amount of carbs. You can have fried chicken and pork chops. In fact since I gained back the 11 pounds I lost last year we are going back on Adkins January 2 nd. Mr. GG2 just ate his last pancake for awhile. 😏

I hadn’t heard that. I had a feeling that we would ultimately discover some kind of negative side effect from this drug as we did with Fen-Phen.
