That’s awesome. I have a bridge camera since I don’t know much about photography and can’t really afford something more expensive. My husband says we can, but I can’t justify the cost. I don’t plan on selling my photos or anything, so I don’t see the point in getting a new camera with better lenses. This one is sufficient for me. Maybe one year I will improve and will be ready to take more cool shots with something better.

The birds don’t mind me being outside near them unless I make it too obvious that I’m snooping. They forgive me quickly.

This time of year in So Cal we have crows. Lots of them. Woodpeckers too and hummingbirds. My neighbor has a sharp-shined hawk nesting in one of her trees.

Beautiful weather! In the 70s which is causing my irises to bloom early but heard there is an "atmospheric river" headed our way in the next week or two with six inches of desperately needed rain.

I've lost and/or forgotten the name of these b/c they are very old:

I think this one is called "City Lights."

The only birds I have really noticed at the new house are crows. Yup, can’t get away from those stinkers - noisy bunch too ... probably hoping I will have a garden they can raid!

There is a platform feeder in view of the bay window, so I am sure there would be lots of birds if I put out food. My dad made bluebird houses & has them up all over the ‘flatland’ place, so I will have to take a couple to the valley house & see if there are bluebirds there. We are loaded with them here - they especially like my tall trellis, gives them a great view & lookout for insects.

We had a “Spring preview” day yesterday: sunny & 73! It was glorious ... in the morning we had to go to Lowe’s to pick up an order & everyone was smiling, commenting on seeing the sun & glad the arctic freeze was gone, even if more winter weather is around the corner. In the afternoon, we worked on the ‘yard’, picking up winter tree limb debris & getting leaves off the patio. First time sitting on the patio & watching the sun set over the mountain .... just heavenly.

This year has been fairly snow free for us. My guess is that the birds are finding food in the wild to eat.

We can only put out bird feeders at limited times in the winter. Just before and just after bears go in for hibernation, they have to come in as you will have a chronic bear problem for YEARS if you don’t.

It’s amazing what a mood enhancer sunshine and warm temperatures can be.

Yes I think I will wind up doing that too. We have some nice field guides I just might get a bright marker and mark them in the field guide.

Yep- if i had known that selling photos wasn’t goign to work out because I’m not top level photographer- I would have just gotten a much less expensive camera for a hobby instead- Sad that i spent so much on mine=- Any type of art for commercial purposes is really expensive to get into-

Love the gif. Got a couple of woodpeckers here in OK who do the exact same thing at the bird feeder. It’s a hoot to watch!

I saw a robin today in Lake Geneva. Usually don’t start seeing them until March. I didn’t know red wing blackbirds were winter birds. I never see them in winter. I see crows, sparrows and occasional cardinal.

*** It’s amazing what a mood enhancer sunshine and warm temperatures can be.***

I’m a Florida native, so sunshine for me is a must. I’ve been in the Midwest for 35 years, and it hasn’t gotten any easier. The lack of sunshine in the Winter is a problem for me.

I am taking extra vitamin D this winter, to see if that helps my winter depression, and so far, I think it’s working. I bet I could take even more.

I pretty much HAVE to go outside every day for a walk. It keeps me sane. When the temps were in the single digits a week ago, we didn’t get our daily walk in for 8 days straight. Nearly made me bonkers. Single digits are one thing. Single digits with well below zero wind chills are another. It just isn’t fun to go outside for more than 10 minutes. Even going to the grocery store is a hassle at those temps.

Give me more sunshine, and I’ll be a good girl.

I’m so glad we don’t have bears around here. I would probably move if they were here.

I’m a life long northerner and the few times I have been in FL I have ***LOVED*** it. I would love to live there all the time.

I hate the cold and always feel so alive and free when I am in FL and getting enough sun and walks.

In central Indiana, we have robins year-round, and cardinals, too. I sometimes see red-wing blackbirds by now, but haven’t seen them this year. My sister in Florida has Orioles at her feeders all winter until late April, when they head back up here. I miss their bright colors and always look forward to seeing them come back by May.

Those burgundy and yellow irises look just like some my mom had in her garden in Florida. I don’t remember their name either.

They arent so bad- we used to watch em walk right under our feet when we sat on the back deck- (It was about 12 feet high or so- so the bears wouldn’t even know we were up there unless they happened to look up and spot us)

It is a little nerve wracking hiking in bear country- I’ve run into bears a few times- they have always taken off- but they could get ugly- so it’s not a sure thing- but bear attacks are really rare really-
