The fighting will end when the Ukraine capitulates and agrees to armistace, just like all other wars.
That will involve Russia geting de-facto and de-jure control of roughtly what they have control of at the time. Which is about 20% of Ukraine.
The war will end, the Russians will not go "home", especially to those who consider places they have captured not their home.

of NATO since 2004. At that time the Ukraine was turned
down. They were turned down again last year.
