There is a lengthy literature on NDEs of various kinds.

The general pattern is you see what you expect to see—so Christians see Christian symbols, Hindus see Hindu symbols etc.

This guy has less “baggage” going in than most—though he did admit the influence of Wesley Streiber’s “Communion”—so he did not meet religious figures but rather had “alien” ones.

The “trick” with NDE (from those who have had the “best” and most interesting experiences) is explained in the Bible.

There was only person who got to see Jesus—the doubting Thomas.

That is who you want to be in a NDE.

Let the universe do all the work—and show you its stuff.

NDE means they were clinically dead or close to clinically dead but then “come back to life”.

Those witnesses generate the NDE literature.

There are been some really cool cases where folks claim they left their body, floating though the ceiling, traveled over the hospital and saw things it should have been impossible for them to see outside the hospital.

In other cases they do this travel outside their bodies through walls and can describe what is a couple of rooms away etc etc etc.

This stuff has been well known as long as homo sapiens has been around—and there are dozens of books about it.

I think he saw something, but it wasn’t Heaven. The room, the creatures, the message (have forgotten the wording, but it was far from Scriptural) had nothing to do with Heaven or with God. If anyone watches it, pray first for protection. I think it’s purpose is meant to deceive. He probably is an unwitting pawn.

He heard what he heard.

Obviously those who spoke to him could have been lying.

That said—I agree he did not see Heaven or God.

In fact he did not claim that he did.

He experienced what he experienced.

He told what he experienced.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

Shaman Oaks is NOT a Christian site! Its subjects are seldom if ever about Jesus, and follow a Universalist “Everybody’s going to get to Heaven” line of blasphemy, as well as reincarnation garbage. I believe it is meant, by the enemy of our souls, Satan, to get people to believe that it is not necessary to believe in the Lord to get to Heaven. Having said that, I do believe that the Lord will reveal Himself to those who have never heard of Him, in the nanosecond before they hit eternity, to give them an opportunity to accept Him. The Lord hates unjust scales, and to not give those who have never heard of Him to be damned is not just.

If he’s still walking around he never died. His heart may have needed to be restarted but, at worst, he almost died. I have no doubts anoxia produces some weird mental effects but if you survived, you didn’t die.

A friend of mine is a cardiologist in the Netherlands. His research was published in the Lancet.

“Near-death experience in survivors of cardiac arrest: a prospective study in the Netherlands”

https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(01)07100-8/abstract

In a prospective study, we included 344 consecutive cardiac patients who were successfully resuscitated after cardiac arrest in ten Dutch hospitals. We compared demographic, medical, pharmacological, and psychological data between patients who reported NDE and patients who did not (controls) after resuscitation.

In a longitudinal study of life changes after NDE, we compared the groups 2 and 8 years later.

Findings

62 patients (18%) reported NDE, of whom 41 (12%) described a core experience. Occurrence of the experience was not associated with duration of cardiac arrest or unconsciousness, medication, or fear of death before cardiac arrest.

Frequency of NDE was affected by how we defined NDE, the prospective nature of the research in older cardiac patients, age, surviving cardiac arrest in first myocardial infarction, more than one cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) during stay in hospital, previous NDE, and memory problems after prolonged CPR.

Depth of the experience was affected by sex, surviving CPR outside hospital, and fear before cardiac arrest. Significantly more patients who had an NDE, especially a deep experience, died within 30 days of CPR (p<0·0001).

The process of transformation after NDE took several years, and differed from those of patients who survived cardiac arrest without NDE.

Interpretation

We do not know why so few cardiac patients report NDE after CPR, although age plays a part. With a purely physiological explanation such as cerebral anoxia for the experience, most patients who have been clinically dead should report one.

God said He would send Elijah before the coming of the Lord, so in Matt 17 all the disciples of Jesus are wondering where the heck Elijah was, if indeed Jesus was the Lord.

They ask Jesus why the scribes say Elijah has to come first (Matt 17:10). And in Matt 17 11-13 we read, “And He answered and said, Elijah is coming and will restore all things; but I say to you that Elijah already came, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wished.

So also the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands. Then the disciples understood that He had spoken to them about John the Baptist.”

Christians believe that Christ brought people back to life. Any reports from the Old Testament? As to the quote from Hebrews, I will leave that to others discuss if they choose.

That and sometimes the anesthetist does not get the surgical patient under and the patient wakes up and can recite the doctors conversations about something like his trip to Hawaii.
