Smart TV brand that does not pimp their ads on the home screen?

Posted on 02/22/2024 4:15:51 AM PST by LouAvul

My Sony flat screen TV is old and is rebooting at least once a day. And the pimps at Sony have overridden my "preferences" to hawk their "woke" alerts and advertisements. All this on the home screen.

Since I'm going to upgrade anyway, is there a brand that doesn't pimp the Psuedo Cause du jour when it fires up?

I have a wall picked out for an 82” (eventually)!

I'm holding out for the Samsung 11,088,000".

That's 175 miles.

?I don’t know but we decisively and deliberately go out of our way to avoid buying any *smart* anything. We even had trouble finding a smart chain saw. It’s ridiculous.

I couldn't even find anything but a smart 2x4 board.

Hey — I got two generations of Sony Bravia. Both a good five years old or more. No boot or startup screen. There is a menu item to stop that.

TODAY though —

I have an off-the-air antenna on my sets. Since yesterday, suddenly, almost all the digital channels disappeared. When I scan the airwaves it tells me it found 28 digital channels, yet once complete I have only 3 basic channels. 13, 28 and 55. It’s like the digital world is upgrading codecs and protocols and leaving old digital sets out in the cold.

Anybody having off-the-air issues with channels ?

On my desktop I just use IrfanView to do my ‘photoshop’ simply stuff. IrfanView has been around since Windows XP and then some.

"Black/white couples don't bother me. What bothers me is some woke fag in hollyweird forcing the concept on me."

EXACTLY! The incredible number of black actors on commercials is driving me crazy. I don't fault the actors...more power to them if they can get the work. It's the woke creators shoving this garbage on us. And the rap crap music in these commercials? I'd rather listen to Taylor Sniff sing the commercial.

Try this:

Paste this into your FREply:

Then change the "[" to "<" and the "]" to ">" (I used braces so you could see what the html markup should look like).

You should see this:

"That's 175 miles."

You're gonna have to sit in the next town to watch it. You oughta think about charging admission because everybody else will be watching it to. You could sell overpriced popcorn and candy.

Thanks. I thought you were referring to chainsaws that connect to the internet, and I couldn’t see how that would ever be needed. I can see how a good engine chip might keep the thing running better for longer without having to adjust the carburetor periodically, though I still know how to do that.

I don’t like all of the safety features on newer saws. Things like anti-kickback tips on bars keep you from using the tip for a lot of things, and so on.

for 175” TV, if it has the usual 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution, each pixel would be a little less than the size of a football field.

Being in the next town won’t help your user experience. You need to be on the space shuttle, in orbit.

My favorite invention is the electric-only generator.

You plug it into an outlet, which powers a motor, and that motor generates electricity.

Just plug a power strip into itself. Much simpler.

but html is a mystery.

Try this:

[a href=https://www.w3schools.com/html/tryit.asp?filename=tryhtml_basic>Cool site to play with HTML[/a]

Again...change the "[" to "<" and "]" to ">" and you'll have posted a link to a site where you can play around with html online in real time.

Cool site to play with HTML

HTML is all about placing things within "tags". An "open" tag and a close tag (which is similar to the open tag but has a "/" preceding it. "Img" tags are to post pictures. "A" tags are to post hyperlinks. You'll pick up enough rudimentary html manage stuff we post here in no time.

Only thing about this site is once you include html tags "<" in your reply or post, you have to use them for line breaks or you'll end up with one big run-on paragraph.

That's where the [br] (line break) tag comes in. I use a lot of [br][br] to create double-spaces between paragraphs.

Other good tags:
my bold here
my italics here
my bold italics here

WISH I HAD THOUGHT OF THAT!

Enough of those, and you can cut your cord with the power company.

We even had trouble finding a chain saw that wasn’t *smart*.

I figured, but it made me think about what a smart chainsaw would do. ;)

Sony google TV

Yeah, that's what I've got. I think Google is responsible for the bottom two rows of ads. That's recent, too. I had gotten rid of everything below the "apps" row.

And, once upon a time, I had gotten rid of the top row. That's the row with the propaganda, woke cause du jour crap. But that didn't last long.
