Michigan Dem Senate Nominee Gary Peters Exaggerated, Misrepresented Military Record

Rep. Gary Peters (D-MI) has exaggerated and misrepresented his military service record on the campaign trail for U.S. Senate in Michigan, military community leaders including one of his former commanding officers told Breitbart News for an exclusive investigative report.

Peters’ military service record jacket, obtained via the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) from the Department of the Navy and provided exclusively to Breitbart News, shows a man who had a broken service record that was substandard, one of his indirect commanding officers, retired Navy Commander Jim Semerad, said in an interview with Breitbart News.

“Gary was pretty much a warm body in virtually all of the units I saw him assigned to,” Semerad said when reached by phone early Thursday. “He was never selected for anything.”

Full Title: Exclusive–Military Leaders: Michigan Dem Senate Nominee Gary Peters Exaggerated, Misrepresented Military Record on Campaign Trail

Also from the article

And Semerad is not the only one speaking out. Former Rep. Allen West (R-FL), who served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, is raising concerns about Peters’ record as are Retired Navy Captain Joseph John, the head of the group Combat Veterans For Congress, and the Republican National Committee (RNC) military expert.

It appears that Peters also made up "cooler" sounding firearms qualifications than actually exist. It appears that he was never trained as a Seabee as he claims. Instead he was a supply officer assigned to a Seabee unit for a short while.

Gary Peters has good reason for running from a debate.

Also tonight, Mark Schauer dodged the post debate press conference for some reason.

To some Democrats, lying is just a technicality. For others, it is resume enhancement.

Could be a boost for Land, the old stepping on the rake trick from Peters. Maybe he’s about to pull a John Walsh!

Peters plays the role of affable buffoon but he is a real bottom feeder.

Its no wonder the sleazy bastard refuses to debate.

She's got a very strong internet game and I think she's doing better than anyone realizes. Peters had mooch up here campaigning for him and Hillary Clinton is coming in a few days.

They claimed a full house crowd but the pics I saw looked like a fairly sparse crowd for Detroit.

I read the whole article. There is NOTHING concrete to suggest he served less than honorably, which is what they’re implying.

It’s wonderful to have people who actually served in the armed forces running for office in this country. So he wasn’t a Navy SEAL. Few people are. Should he not run because of that? At least he served, which is more than you can say for most of our current government in this country.

What a nasty hit piece.

Well other than the lying about his service but thanks for crawling out from under your rock to tell us how you really feel.

Do you remember when Cox was running against Peters for AG, about 10 years or more ago? Drew and Mike’s morning show on WRIF had a field day making up false attack ads for both of them. There were a couple of mornings I had to pull over because I was laughing so much.

Agree.

It depends on your unit and comfort level with where you are serving and whether you really want to move around so much and how long you intend to re-up.

PLEASE tell me that the Land campaign has this info and is all over this thing. This could be worth 3 - 5 percentage points on Election Day.

The only crawling from under rocks here is done by ex-servicemen who are besmirching a fellow veteran because they don’t like his political party.

It’s disgraceful and so are they. And so is any Republican who goes along with this horse$&@@.

It’s worthy of the Clintons.

Why don’t you ask some military freepers how you feel about those who lie about their service. Surely a lying democrat piece of soggy feces like you will proudly stand up to FReepers and tell them how you feel about Allen west.

As you can tell, I have zero respect for your kind so you can lie down in the puddle of vomit that is you and cease to be.

I read the article, and as retired Naval Reserve Captain, I can tell you that Rep. Peters’ notion of “Duty, Honor, Country” is seriously flawed.

By “shading” the truth of his honorable service, he dishonors said service.

ANYONE who lies about the nature of their duties while in any of the military services in order to enhance or advance their civilian career deserves to be turned away.

So, this was not a “nasty hit piece.” It was speaking the truth about a dishonorable man seeking to advance his career on lies.

Rep. Peters was doing what LIEberals do best: HE WAS LYING!

We are “besmirching a fellow veteran” because he is LYING ABOUT HIS SERVICE!

It is a content of character thing you’d be well advised to brief yourself up on!

Michigan hunters and shooters:

Peters was never an “expert marksman” in either firearm category because there is no such category of qualification. In reality, according to military records, Peters was a “sharpshooter”—a lower military qualification than “expert” From Breitbart News

Michigan hunters and shooters: This report is accurate. I was a navy pistol expert - and I have the paperwork on file to prove it. It was one of my Michigan hunter father's greatest source of pride in my otherwise ordinary Navy career. Why didn't he just write "sharpshooter"?

Why don’t you ask some military freepers how you feel about those who lie about their service.

I am a Vietnam veteran, with 20 years in the Air Force. I don't take kindly to those who lie about their service, to get ahead. On a related note, I can not figure out why some lied about being Vietnam vets. I never wanted to go in the first place, and I couldn't wait to leave Vietnam, but if I had never been there, I wouldn't lie about it, and say I was.
