The 2020 presidential election is Senator Bernie Sanders race to lose, according to a new survey of more than a dozen top Democratic strategists.
The survey, conducted by the Hill, reveals a Democratic field crowded with old faces. At a time when the party could use some fresh blood, most contenders for commander-in-chief have been around for decades. Sanders, who will be 79 years old in 2020, currently leads the pack.
His people have never gone away, Democratic strategist Brad Bannon told The Hill. And he has a loyal core following out there that will be with him come hell or high water. Sanders is the most popular politician in America, with an approval rating of 75 percent, according to a recent Harvard-Harris poll.
Since losing the 2016 primary to Hillary Clinton, Sanders has toured the U.S. to promote his political group, Our Revolution, and his Medicare-for-all bill. His frequent travel has led many to speculate that hes drumming up support for another presidential run. Advisers to the Vermont senator also have indicated that hes eyeing the top job. When one of Sanders associates was asked if his team was thinking about another run, the associate simply said, Yes, is the answer.
Sanders considers himself a Democratic Socialist, and is registered as an Independent in the Senate but ran as a Democrat in the 2016 election. Bannon says that since 2016, Sanders far-left politics have been embraced by Democrats at large. The Sanders wing is becoming the dominant wing of the party, he said.
Sanders Medicare For All Act of 2017, which promotes a single-payer healthcare plan, is now supported by a third of Senate Democrats. When Sanders presented a version of the bill in 2013, he was unable to garner any support at all.
Vs Bernie. Landslide victory for Trump. As far as landslides can go today.
Sanders and his supporters are pro-abortion-murdering, socialistic-thieving scum of the earth, and, following their trial, conviction and sentencing for crimes against humanity, are only fit as one-time rope testers.
SO many Bernheads will have prospered and advanced under President Trump’s leadership, by the time 2020 comes around it’ll be ... Bernie who ?
Oh no!!! Not that!!!
You can do ANYTHING, just don’t run Bernie against us!
Long row of democrat nominees for debates...Annnnd they all come out using walkers....
Who would want to go down in history losing to Trump?
Bernie will be the designated loser.
Sanders pissed off too many of his supporters the last go-around. I really hope he wins the nomination.
Yep, and if they ran Maxine Waters as his VP I just don't know what we'd do.
Well, they'd be epic debates, anyway.
Is Sarah Sanders running for office?
Can’t be the Bern....he will be occupied visiting his bride in the hoosegow.
Communism vs Free enterprise .
Communism ,, equally shared misery dispensed by the govt. .
Free enterprise ,, the harder you work the greater the reward .
From the same quacks who used to say never trust anyone over 30.
My take too. It could be a great opportunity to have this debate on an epic platform.
LOL - not in the briar patch, please! Anything but the briar patch!
I think he may have beaten Trump in 2016. But 3 years is a long time for a man his age and I think his schtick will wear thin by then.
"In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism," said Sanders.
"And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say, you're going to see counties all over the world...they're going to be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops, and you're going to see all kinds of international conflict."
Sanders said at the second Democratic debate in Iowa that climate change poses the biggest threat to America's national security and to security of the world. ..."
Following the success of Desert Storm, GHW Bush’s approval numbers were sky high. He thought himself such a shoo-in he picked his Commerce Secretary to run the 1992 re-election campaign. The Commerce Secretary had neither the skills nor the desire to do the job.
But Bush’s ratings were so high, he didn’t think it would matter. Those same ratings spooked the Democrats who couldn’t find anyone willing to run and lose. Who, as you might say, wants to go down in history as losing to Bush? Then Bill Clinton decided what the hell and jumped in.
Meanwhile the economy was worsening, eroding Bush’s popularity, which was impacted by his failing to honor his pledge of no new taxes.
You know the rest. Perot split the conservative vote and ‘designated loser’ Clinton moved into the White House.
