Trump won’t lose in a long shutdown
The Washington Post ^ | January 3, 2019 | Henry Olsen

We’re into Day 13 of the partial government shutdown, and there’s no end in sight. Common wisdom says the longer this lasts, the worse the politics will get for President Trump. I disagree.

Trump isn’t likely to suffer politically because he’s not doing anything his supporters find objectionable. A Quinnipiac poll last month found that 43 percent of Americans, including 86 percent of Republicans and 45 percent of independents, support building the wall. Support for the wall is so high among Trump supporters that even Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said this week that he supports it while blasting the president’s character in a Post op-ed. When your most prominent internal critic supports your position, you know you’re dealing from strength.

Now that Democrats run the House, they will increasingly bear some political responsibility for ending the crisis. Americans generally want both sides to cut deals in the national interest, and that’s likely to be as true in this case as in others. People didn’t want the government to be shut down, but now that it is, they’re likely to want a deal to get it back open. That plays into Trump’s hands — as long as he demonstrates that he’s willing to deal, too....

Political hacks going up against an astute businessman. Sheep to the slaughter. Have to feel sorry for them. Not.

I think his timing is good. His base will support him no matter how far this goes. Yeah, he might lose people in the middle behind it, but he’ll have a long time before November 2020 to win them back. If he fights this to the end, his base will never forget it.

Democrats and Rinos can’t sgo long periods of time without spending our money and empowering themselves with new taxes and regulations. They will fold soon.

Liberals may think it’s about Presdient Trump.

Americans know it’s about the United States.

He needs to keep emphasizing he wants to protect the American people. Every time the Dems spout about how expensive PDJT needs to say loud and proud on camera “just what dollar value do you put on American lives? How about Officer Singh, what dollar value to you put on his life?

A few weeks or months pass and in the meanwhile there is a big news story or two. Then the media starts “shutdown stories” again and it dawns on most of the public that they had forgotten about the shutdown and don’t really notice it.

That’s the real fear for the Democrats.

A somewhat friendly article from the WP.

Now I’m really worried.

I'm pretty sure Trump planned a long shutdown.

Of course he knows the Dems won't cave easily.

Mutt’s approval means the polls support the President.

As long as Trump hangs tough on the border wall, he’s going to win. The only way he loses on this issue is if he caves - and I don’t believe he will. He’s not a Bush or a Romney.

Nope, we just want the damn wall and an immigration process that protects this country.

I trust Trump on this, but not his party.
If the Repulsicans fold on this, they can kiss their Obamaholes goodbye.

A Firechief’s son was just killed by an illegal alien with no insurance or driver’s license.

Trump could just list the violent crimes that have happened during the shutdown.

Dens won’t cave as long as the SSS payments, ADC payments, Food Stamps, Medicare, Medicaid all continue. As long as it is the Armed Forces, Nat’l Parks, etc not getting paid they have no need to move. Not their constituency. I dont know about Fed LEOs, lawyers and such. I do know Mueller and his flying monkeys are getting paid.

WaPo has this wrong. President Trump has put his “deal” on the table already - the wall Will Be Built or the shut down continues - that is the deal.
