Democrat claims Republican senators are ready to ditch Trump if he used aid as 'leverage'

Florida Democratic Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell claimed that she is aware of Senate Republicans who are willing to back impeachment of President Trump if it becomes clear that he tried to use foreign aid as "leverage."

In a July 25 phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump discussed both the aid the United States provides to Ukraine, while also requesting he look into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. The transcript of the phone call in question was released by the White House on Wednesday.

In an interview on CNN shortly after, Mucarsel-Powell stated, "I do think, and I have heard from some of my colleagues, that they have been speaking with their senators who are Republican senators, that this definitely changes the calculus for them."

Out of the names from the emergency declaration vote earlier, they have about 5 right now. About another dozen can be bought off with promises, payoffs, and a few Biden-like family deals. Any vote will be razor thin. The beltway cartel cares nothing about anyone out here in the real world. They want to overthrow the government and are counting on everybody to just sit back a take it. It is time we the people make sure they know we are mobilized if not it is over.

Trump would never resign in a million years.

And impeachment in the House does NOT mean removal from office. A conviction in the Senate is necessary for that to happen, and the country will be torn apart in that event.

The POS Romney will NEVER be president. No way in hell.

67 votes to make 2/3 unless the Senate is down a member at 99.

Foreign Aid should ALWAYS be used for “leverage”.

Well, Trump’s base doesn’t shive a get if he uses leverage to get his way. He’s trying to make up for decades of US Presidents rolling over in international negotiations. We want him to improve things for the USA.

Exactly. Like Trump threatening and following through with tariff's isn't using leverage. Sheesh we have a dump public.

If Mitt runs for re-election in 2024, Trump needs to endorse a third party opponent. What’s good for the goose...

Romney's conduct after becoming senator has revealed him to be a sleazy back-stabbing Judas in the political arena. No need for a third party candidate. Plenty of Mormons who will primary Romney if Trump supports Romney's opponent. Romney lost the state party activist convention poll, despite Trump's endorsement. With Trump's thumbs-down, he'd lose the primary outright:

State Republican Convention results, 2018
Candidate First ballot Pct. Second ballot Pct.
Mike Kennedy 1,354 40.69% 1,642 50.88%
Mitt Romney 1,539 46.24% 1,585 49.12%
Loy Brunson 4 0.12% Eliminated
Alicia Colvin 29 0.87% Eliminated
Stoney Fonua 7 0.21% Eliminated
Chris Forbush 0 0% Eliminated
Timothy Jiminez 100 3.01% Eliminated
Joshua Lee 2 0.06% Eliminated
Larry Meyers 163 4.90% Eliminated
Gayle Painter 0 0% Eliminated
Samuel Parker 122 3.67% Eliminated
Total 3,328 100.00% 3,227 100.00%

IMO, Trump should have endorsed Mike Kennedy. If he had, we wouldn't have to put up with Romney's BS from the perch of a Senate seat today. I have little doubt Kennedy would be nothing like the venomous viper Romney has proven to be.

Forgive me but I am a little lost. Diplomacy is all about give and take, right? Trump talking on the phone in a recorded conversation to the Ukraine is obviously him acting as the POTUS for the interests of the USA. So he is concerned that a former VP used the office for his ACTUAL personal gain and wants the Ukraine to get to the bottom of it, for the sake of the country. So even if he did say “Do it, or we cut you off” that is totally legitimate in his role as the Chief Executive, is it not?

The idea that this is election interference is a huge stretch. It is incidental and neither here nor there that the subject of malfeasance (Biden) happens to be a contender for the 2020 election. The election hasn’t begun. Heck, the primaries for the Democratic party haven’t even started yet. We don’t even know if Biden will be the candidate.

And even IF in a strange twist of logic this was digging for election dirt, did Obama and gang NOT use the FISA courts to do the same thing against Trump?

Didn’t Obama use the CIA/NSA/FBI and FISA courts to gain leverage for Hillary against Trump?
