indeed, IIRC baseball bats are used as a murder weapon more frequently per-annum than are "assault weapons"

Yeah, the whole story stinks to high Heaven. How much 'secret' information can a tank drive have? Half the Al Quaeda operatives have been to tank school here in the U.S. already just like we taught them how to fly airliners. I could be wrong, but I think he's a patsy-- a toasted patsy, but a patsy nonetheless.

They'll convict him of something, regardless of whether or not he's guilty. Just another casualty in the War on Terror. The FBI will have extra elbows installed in their arms (at taxpayers expense) so they can pat themselves on the back and we'll all be told that we're much safer now.

Baaaaaa, Baaaaa.

It wasn't the 'no new taxes' thing that cost his daddy the election. It was his 'executive order' banning the import of some rifles.

It's what convinced me not to vote the top of the ticket that year.

'Rs' down the ticket got my vote, but not Bush The Elder.

He lost about 5 million votes doing that.

Voters become complacent about security issues.

"Becoming"? I already see too many that are. They expect the Great Nanny Government to raise their income while not complaining that half their income goes to various taxes, give them cheaper or free healthcare thinking the grass is greener in Canada, and provide jobs they don't have to work hard at keeping or help prosper. The publik skool system and liberal media has done a fine job in leading these folks to not comprehend that the government's basic job is to protect our sovereignty and freedoms, not hand out scraps of food on silver platters from the socialists' tables.

Assautlt Weapons Ban is a pivotal issue.

It is very important to many of us. (some of use are not gun collectors, do not hunt, do not go to the range ever but still understand the issues fundamentals)

If Terressa Heinz (hyphen "Kerry" for election purposes) makes this he signature issue then Kerry might as well say he is a homosexual. Besides Hein-kerry is a envirowacko. He issues are already the earth. (remember these two property taking enviro wackos met in a brazilian earth summit.)

"God, Guns and Gays"-Howard Dean. Dr. Yeeeeaaaah knew something.

Agreed. I'm willing to give the President a break on spending, illegals, prescription drugs, etc. But if he renews the AWB, I'll be sitting out this election.

Bush signs this, he's done.

I agree. Best hope for the Republicans if it starts to look passable is to filibuster it so it doesn't reach Bush's desk. Else they'll all pay the price.

Wish there was a Freeper poll re: this.

1) There is another big terrorist attack, the Soccer Moms get scared, and come home to the Republicans. Voter sentiment favors the Second Amendment, self-defense, and self-preservation. Bush supports sunsetting, Kerry supports extension, big win for Bush.

2) No further terrorist attacks. Further drip, drip, drip of causualties in Iraq and Afghanistan. Voters become complacent about security issues. Possible Columbine-esque school shooting further energizes the anti-defense, anti-security, anti-gun lobby. Teresa Heinz adopts the Assault Weapons Ban as her signature issue; Soccer Moms flock to her. Dubyah and Laura get nervous, betray the NASCAR Dads, and sign on for an Assault Weapons Ban extension. NASCAR Dads are demoralized, stay home. Soccer Moms elect John Kerry.

Option 3) Kerry is mortally wounded by many repeated document drops, all emenating from the Clark/Hillary Clinton quarter. The Democrat Convention is brokered, and Hillary takes the nomination. She easily wins the election because Bush has disaffected his base, and she selects Edwards as a Veep candidate, who can bring home at least 4 southern states.

Which four Southern states would go for Clinton-Edwards?

I agree if he extends the AWB there will be a loss in the future.. but can you all imagine what Kerry/Hillary will do if he DOES win? The losses to gun rights will be not only staggering, but unrecoverable.

Thanks. Does anyone now where I might find TOW reloads?

Sure do. But you'll find a C90 is a lot handier.

The 1992 reelection effort of Bush I made a pretty good one.

If Bush II signs a AWB renewal, it'll cost him between 8 and 10 million votes. As close as things were with Gore, I don't think he can afford that.

No question the Rats would be extremely detrimental to our 2A rights, assuming that they could. But if the Republicans are not going to be the party to defend our rights, they need to get out of the way. And if they are this weak when they have all branches of the government, then the infringements to our rights is going to happen sooner or later - as a parent I'd prefer sooner. If the Republicans are going to earn my vote, they can:

1)filibuster it

2)beat it outright

3)veto it

They can take their pick and then I'll take mine.
