It's beginning.
We may want to go in "with precision," but we can be sure there will be plenty of "collateral damage" as well.
But that's the price of war, and those vermin who murdered those four guys last week must be brought to justice one way or another.

. . . five Marines were killed when a bomb exploded under their vehicle in a village near Fallujah. Not important, but I believe they were US Army Soldiers.

Marines Encircle Fallouja
(Operation Valiant Resolve commencing)
FALLOUJA, Iraq Thousands of Marines surrounded this anti-American stronghold early today in preparation for a complex raid to retake control of the city and apprehend those responsible for last week's slayings of four U.S. security contractors.
The highly anticipated action, dubbed Operation Valiant Resolve, was expected to be one of the biggest military offensives since the fall of Saddam Hussein's government a year ago.
All roads leading to this city of 300,000 were cut off and barricaded with tanks and concertina wire. Working through the cold and windy desert night, under a large moon, Marines set up camps for detainees and residents who might flee any fighting. Before dawn, several Marine positions were hit by mortar rounds and rocket-propelled grenade fire. Bursts of automatic gunfire could be heard throughout the city.

The Marines and Iraqi security forces were poised to enter the city to arrest suspected insurgents Am I the only one who prefers that the U.S. Marines kill people, rather than "arrest" them?
Because of this

"The Marines said they intended to take a softer approach with Fallujah residents, hoping to win popular support."
That was their first mistake. They need to take a much harder approach to those ignorant scumbags.

might not involve taking the center of the town.and 'massive' are not quite mutually exclusive...but pretty damn close.

I agree. We need to kill these scumbags who mutilated the Americans. We need to be doing a lot more killing over there. Guys who could be a problem need to be killed instead of detained. If we detain these guys a lot of them just get released sooner or later. Then they go back to their old ways. As long as we allow those people to be free they will cause us problems. We also need to kill that piece of Shiite Sadr. He's done enough already and should be killed instead of warned.

We need to kill these scumbags who mutilated the Americans. And there will be another scumbag right behind that one. That's who they are.
What we need to do is to get out of there. Now.

That can't and won't happen. Remember Somalia? It adds to their resolve when they see the Americans leave because our Gov't can't handle the "potential" casualties.

That is the last thing we need to do. We dont back down!!!! Clinton did see what he did for us??

A saying of yesteryear comes to mind that seems to fit this situation:
Kill'em all and let G-d sort'em out.
To: ThermoNuclearWarrior
I think we should take Sadr and his pals in the dead of night to Guantanamo Bay prison, without publicity. Keep him drugged and disoriented, he'll not know where he is. He is a rich source of intel that we need.

It doesnt work
Look at the eastern front the harsher the German methods the more they drove what was a welcoming population into the hands of the partisans.
In North Ireland when we realised that there was no way we could win military and push political ops to the front was when we started to have a success.
