I agree. We need to kill these scumbags who mutilated the Americans. We need to be doing a lot more killing over there. Guys who could be a problem need to be killed instead of detained

Ditto.

The key is to get the scumbag death rate high enough that they run out of fighters.

This is by no means impossible, we did it to both Japan and Germany from 1941-45.

"The city is surrounded," Vanzant said.

Surrounded by insurgents or surrounded by Marines?

The Bush 2 Administration did not finish the Iraqi war (i.e., surrender of the enemy) before trying to establish a political peace.

Until the Military finishes the war, the insurgents/terrorists will continue to be a problem. Solve that problem or we will continue to see Coalition troops picked off daily for the next decade. Finish the war; then establish a political peace.

I want to see our "good buddies", the Iraqis, finally do something about Hussein's murderous henchmen in the town of Fallujah. We've already seen hundreds of Iraqis blown up in Baghdad by these bastards, and have been told repeatedly that the majority of Iraqis are with the US. Fine! Then let the Iraqis we've trained and armed go after the remnants of Hussein's killers with everything they've got. If they truly are with the US, and they truly want a free Iraq, then there should be no problem in fielding an Iraqi army capable of defeating these murderous Hussein holdovers.

If this can't be done, then we've already lost the war!

You'd like Marines to kill those who COULD be a problem ? Wouldn't you prefer to kill those who just ARE the problem ?

Hussein's murderous henchmen in the town of Fallujah

I read some article late last week that said even Saddam feared going into Fallujah because of the thugs. The impression I got was that the city is controlled, similar to Somalia, by fierce warlord types and bands of thugs.

This oh-so-sensitive patticake game where we arrest people and treat them with Miranda rights is not the way to win a war.

Exactly! We have to finish the war before we can ever establish police/law enforcement activities. We have not finished the war yet.

I would prefer we take them both out.

It's one hell of a tall order, Therm, you call for mass executions there. I'd say let's take out those who really are the problem, and offer to those who some day could potentially be a problem the opportunity to think twice about it.

They hate us. Why would we give them more time for that hatred to fester?

I would rather see a bomb dropped in the middle of a protest.

Well, yes and no. The Kamikazes were still signing up in large numbers.

The solution, then, was to obliterate a couple of population centers.

I guess we haven't gotten to that point. Yet.

And if they don't want to go in there with guns blazing - targetted assassinations will also work - but arresting and negotiating will not - with the possible exception of taking an individual(s) for his intel value.

Thanks, it looks as if both our countries are in this war for a rather long period. At least both our countries have good solid experience in fighting COIN ops. The only way to win this sort of war is immediate actions carried out based on good solid intelligence and whether people like it or not each operation must be weighed with both political and military considerations. The aim is not a body count the aim is to cut down and eliminate recruitment.

"1st Marine Expeditionary Force(search)."

If this unit lives up to it's reputation the bad guys in Fallujah are going to have some serious s**t coming down on them!

I hope the Marines have the good sense to round up the French Associated Press crew and escort them out of the city for their own "safety."
