[HollywoodInvestigator.com] Libertarian Party delegates chose Constitutional scholar Michael Badnarik for their 2004 presidential candidate over Memorial Day weekend (May 27 - 31) at Atlanta's Mariotte Marquis hotel -- and the Hollywood Investigator was there!

So were over 800 delegates from around the U.S., plus celebrity speakers (both on and off the convention floor), merchandisers, activists -- and controversy!

A long article with four pages and many photos (that I don't know how to transfer). Includes info on a libertarian delegate for Bush (sic), plus Karen Kwiatkowski, and more on that pro-lifer who was booed.

The booing wasn't nice, but I'm still voting for Michael Badnarik in 2004!

As the three "major" [Libertarian] presidential contenders were nearly identical on issues (despite minor individual tweaks, all supported legalizing drugs, peace, foreign non-interventionism, abortion rights, gay marriage, and abolishing almost all taxes and government programs)

ROFL! What a bunch of liberal hippie morons!

I keep seeing references to Badnarik being a constitutional law teacher but have never seen it mentioned at which law school he teaches.

Since this seems to be his only bona fide perhaps you could tell us. Or is it a secret? Or does it change from sidewalk to sidewalk as the police make him move along?

Third Party voting only works in the primaries. This is how it works. Say that the Democrats get 35% of the vote, the Communists get 2% of the vote, the Socialist Worker's Party gets 3% of the vote, the Greens get 6% of the vote, and the Libertarians get 2% of the vote. Then, in the general election, the Democratic candidate can look at the primary election results and say: "Gee. 13% of my important constituents feel really strongly about moral-liberal issues, so therefore I will alter my message accordingly in the general election!"

Badnarik teaches in the free market rather than in a quasi-statist/ABA-certified law school. He organizes his own classes, and sells tapes of his lectures.

Someone who took Badnarik's course told me that it was "awesome." He said that Badnarik really made the Constitution come alive, and that one left the course with a rich and in-depth understanding of the Constitution and American history.

I am none of the above. Too young to be a hippie, too capitalistic to be liberal, and since I am not fooled by either major party, I am certainly no moron.

You might not want to quote directly from anti-third-party talking points, next time. Who supplies yours, by the way?

My anti-libertarian talking points are supplied directly from the libertarians:

As the three "major" [Libertarian] presidential contenders were nearly identical on issues (despite minor individual tweaks, all supported legalizing drugs, peace, foreign non-interventionism, abortion rights, gay marriage, and abolishing almost all taxes and government programs)

Peace + drugs = hippie
Abortion + Gays = liberal
foreign non-interventionism = moron

Liberals want to abolish almost all taxes and government programs?

Right, libertarians are pot-smoking baby-killing liberals plus unrealistic fiscal conservatives plus dangerously idiotic on foreign policy.

Victory or Death (Vanity)
Vanity | 3/14/2004 | tort_feasor

Posted on 03/14/2004 10:08:12 AM PST by tort_feasor

This November the people of the United States will make a choice between Victory and Death. My choice was made on September 11, 2001. My sister was working in One World Trade Center when Islamic Terrorists crashed a commercial Airliner 30 stories above her office. As she told me she heard a loud noise and then "papers and debris came floating past me." On that day I was blissfully unaware of the events for 45 minutes. I returned to my office to the words that cut off my breathing. "We are at war. The World Trade Center and Pentagon have been hit by planes." For over three hours, we waited for word on my sister's fate. I remebered calling frantically for news. Having my mother tell me that the south tower had collapsed and then that the North tower had collapsed also. When she did and we still had not heard from my sister I tried to face the inevitable loss. The anger and rage I have felt still burns. Thankfully just before noon, we heard from my sister's boyfriend. He had just talked to her and that she was going to a friend's house, unhurt. That weekend she relayed the horror of being caught in the World Trade Center. Of checking her office for anyone left behind. Slowly floor by floor descending the stairwellls. Seeing brave, tired firefighters climbing the same stairwells and sensing they were facing their doom. She related that as they neared the bottom, the stairwell was damaged and she had to cross a floor with no lights to reach another. She told of the water pooling on the steps and the seemingly endless trek downward. When she reached the exits, she told of the firefighters yelling to just run, don't look back. Minutes later One World Trade was added to the rubble pile of Ground Zero. Why do I recount this? I say this to everyone on Freerepublic that votes for John Kerry, or Libertarian or the Constitutional Party or even just stays home is voting against the man who is avenging 911 and is therefore implicitly supporting the very Islamic Terrorists that attempted to murder my sister along with the 50,000 other people in the World Trade Center that day. Now you may not like Bush for the Budget deficit. Fine I am not happy with the government spending but will Kerry be better? I don't think so. Is Medicare and the education department Unconstitutional? Under a strict reading yes, but voting along with 1 percent of all americans for the Consitutional Party isn't going to change the Supreme Court. And who will put better judges on The Courts,Bush or Kerry? Trust me I do respect the beliefs, opinions and right to express such ideas from those who have philosophical disagreements with the president. However, there are murdering madmen bent on doing to us what they almost did to my sister. We must Relect the president and wage unrelenting war until victory or elect Kerry and wait for our eventual defeat and death.

unrealistic fiscal conservatives

Shame on them for advocating moving away from the cliff rather than merely marching toward it more slowly than Democrats.

Shame on them for advocating

Shame on them for advocating abortion on demand, the gay agenda, and surrender to terrorism!

There is no way a conservative could ever support Libertarians -- they get one thing right and everything else wrong. You could start a new party and pick policy positions at random and do better!

I've voted for a few Libertarians when they've run against RINOs.

Well, we're not all on board with the entire party platform. For instance, I self-describe as being 99.95% pro-life; I'm not in the "let's legalize all drugs" camp; and I dragged myself - eventually - into believing the war in Iraq was a good thing. I could give a damn about gays, as long as they don't touch kids or unwilling adults. And as for interventionism, I don't think it's a good idea to thrust ourselves into EVERY damn squabble on the planet, but sometimes it's a necessary evil.

So, basically, you're going by a few bad examples. I take it there are none in your party?
