Kerry's service in Vietnam (Mr. President, I demand you recall your ZOT!!!)
The Los Angeles Times ^ | 8/22/2004 | William B Rood

On Feb 28, 1969, I was officer in charge of PCF-23, one of three Swift boats - including Kerry's PCF-94 and Lt. j.g. Donald Droz's PCF-43 - that carried Vietnamese Regional and Popular Force troops and a Navy demolition team up the Dong Cung, a narrow tributary of the Bay Hap River, to conduct a sweep of the area.

Ambushes were a virtual certainty, and that day was no exception.

The Viet Cong in the area had come to expect that the heavily loaded boats would lumber on past an ambush, firing at the entrenched attackers, beaching upstream and putting troops ashore to sweep back down on the ambush site. Often, they were long gone by the time the troops got there.

The first time we took fire - the usual rockets and automatic weapons - Kerry ordered a "turn 90" and the three boats roared in on the ambush. It worked.

Meanwhile, Kerry ordered our boat to head upstream with his, leaving Droz's boat at the first site.

IT happened again, another ambush. And again, Kerry ordered the turn maneuver, and again it worked.

Then-Capt. and now retired Rear Adm. Roy Hoffmann, the task force commander, fired off a message congratulating the three Swift boats, saying at one point that the tactic of charging the ambushes was a "whining example of completely overwhelming the enemy" and that it "may be the most efficacious method of dealing with small numbers of ambushers."

Hoffman has become a leading critic of Kerry's and now says that what the boats did on that day demonstrated Kerry's inclination to be impulsive to a fault.

Our decision to use that tactic under the right circumstances was not impulsive but was the result of discussions well beforehand and a mutual agreement of all three boat officers.

It is time we demand our leaders win elections without degrading what is true and good in their contenders character. John Kerry is the kind of Military Leader that Hollywood makes movies about. Caught up in maneuvers that were losing propositions day after day, he turned them around and created a maneuver that won the day. We need a Commander in Chief that can do this for us today.

George Bush is paying lip service to distancing himself from the degradation of Kerry's heroic past. This is not the action of a decisive Commander in Chief, this is the action of a weasel, slithering his way into position anyway he can. This must stop!

The Los Angeles Times is as leftist as its sister publication Chicago Tribune. Both are owned by the Mirror Times Company.

I suppose you are referring to the ads put out by Swiftboat Veterans for Truth.

Would you also like President Bush to distance himself from Kerry's degradation of others' pasts? You know the degradation I'm talking about. Calling his fellow Swiftboat Vets war criminals, calling his former Commander-in-Chief a liar for denying that he sent Kerry into Cambodia, calling Air National Guardsmen "draft dodgers", etc.?

John Kerry is paying lip service to supporting his embellished past. A decisive commander in Chief would quickly refute the charges by signing the SF 180, and not depend on his underlings to carry his water with screaming lies and ad hominen attacks. This is the action of a weasel slithering his way in life as he has done since a youngster. Kerry must be stopped.

Well I saw "Sgt. York", but I must have missed "Lt. Kerry".

In Kerry's mind, Apocalypse Now was about his heroic exploits in Cambodia but it wasn't accurate enough.

"John Kerry is the kind of Military Leader that Hollywood makes movies about. "

"The first time we took fire - the usual rockets and automatic weapons - Kerry ordered a "turn 90" and the three boats roared in on the ambush."

"On the verge of what seemed to him a certain and glorious victory for both the United States and himself, Custer ordered an immediate attack on the Indian village. Contemptuous of Indian military prowess, he split his forces into three parts to ensure that fewer Indians would escape."

The guy who was responsible for putting the "Hitler Ad" on moveon.org works for John Kerry's campaign now.

Slime like Kerry has no place to make accusations against the Bush campaign like he is making.
