Hey, now we can update the old phrase by saying "First in War, First in Peace, Last in the NL East".

Las Vegas; Norfolk, Va.; Monterrey, Mexico; Portland, Ore.; and Northern Virginia also made bids, but Washington clearly took the lead during negotiations over recent weeks, strengthened by its wealthy population base and a financial package that would build a new stadium primarily with taxpayers' money.

How appropriate-- brought to Washington by suckling the taxpayer teat. . .

They will be an NL team, right? So let's go back to the official name of the AL team that played in DC before -- the "Washington Nationals," or "Nats," as the "Senators" were nicknamed.

Why, we'll even resurrect National Bohemian beer!

They won't care what you call them. They will just be glad they no longer have to speak French!

Drat. Kansas City needs a baseball team.

We have one. The Royals are the best double-A team in the majors.

I pray this doesn't destroy Baltimore. One or three million flow into Baltimore every game, and this city needs the cash.

To make that work, they could move the Oakland franchise to DC also and combine them into the "Expos-A's". ;)

Seriously, the A's have been given the back of Oakland's hand too often. If they can't get a new ballpark built outside the city limits (Dublin would be perfect) then I'd like to see them move to Las Vegas. It would serve the Oakland City Council right.

Currently the best and winningest name is not in use ~ that's the "Bullets".

Reminds me of what Jay Leno said when the "Washington Bullets" of the NBA decided to change their name because of the association of their name with crime. Leno thought they would just be called the "Bullets".
