The Brooklyn Park man killed early Tuesday in a Minneapolis apartment had up to 26 wounds from being shot in a botched deal to sell ecstasy, according to a criminal complaint filed Thursday.
James A. Barnett, also known as James A. Benett and Charles "Spanky" Barnett, was found dead about 1:30 a.m. in a building in the 2400 block of Golden Valley Rd. in the Willard-Hay neighborhood.
Thomas D. Clair was charged Thursday with second-degree murder and second-degree assault and is being held in the Hennepin County jail without bail.
Clair told investigators that he set up the buy between a man he referred to as "Chris" and Barnett. Clair, 23, said that it was Barnett who first pulled a gun and that Clair was shot during a struggle for the weapon.

Back in the early seventies right after I got discharged from the Navy I went to work for the city of Nashville in the streets and roads department. We assembled in the garage every morning and one day bright and early a guy walks in and asks for so-and-so. Someone pointed him out and the guy walks over and pulls out a nine-shot .22 revlover and empties the whole cylinder into the guy. He then calmly re-loads and SHOOTS HIM AGAIN. Turns out the guy that got shot ran of with the shooters old lady. Bad move I'd say. Anyway, the guy survived as they were only shorts but what a mess!
