"She just loved people, and she was protecting Jeffrey," Ms. duFresne's father said." Pardon me for being an old-fashioned male chauvinist, sexist pig, but isn't it a man's place to protect a woman? You wonder why the father isn't outraged at the death of chivalry. He should have had a few choice words for his son-in-law's cowardice instead of bending over backwards to praise his daughter for making it easy for her fiance not to step up to the plate. Just like Monica Lewinsky's Dad being understanding of Bill Clinton. Whatever happened to fathers' standing up for their little girl? This comment takes the cake for sheer chutzpah.

Denny Crane: "I want two things. First God and then Fox News."

The ignorance is startling. Even more so than the naivete of the victim that resulted in her death. I can't help be feel sorry for these people that have no clue how to take care of themselves. No wonder they are victims.

This seems to illustrate the point that after one becomes an adult, there are no victims, only volunteers.

It doesn’t matter much what he says. He isn’t that bright in my mind.

The way I recall the original article, they were out farting around in the wee hours in a place that evidently isn’t the best area.

Then they walk out and into a group of four loitering people. You don’t do that. You see several people lounging against a wall or talking and step back to let you pass between them – those are the oldest tricks in the book.

One is going to hit/kick/grab/distract while another is going to take the back of your head off. That’s what happens when you let them get on all sides of you. They’re not looking for a “fair fight.” They’re looking to relieve you of (whatever). They’ll do it too if you’re dumb/careless and give them a chance.

Then, dopey knows they’re up to no good but “pushes his way through” to walk away. Now they’re all behind him and meanwhile he’s left sweetie-pie to deal with them, I guess. Supposedly that’s when one guy smacked him with the pistol.

Then she evidently sees the gun because she asks the guy “what are you going to do, shoot me?” or something similar.

Dumb from the time they left the bar. You see people congregating like that, you go back in the bar. Or cross the street. Or run. Run *away* from them, not into/through them.

It may not sound real glamorous, and you might still get shot, but at least you might manage to get them separated enough so you don’t have to deal with them all at once.

Best solution is to do like me. Cut the drinking and be in the house nice and safe by 6:00pm or so. And avoid roaming around in areas where there’s a good chance some no-good-nik is going to screw around with you. But that’s just me. You do what you want.

Good grief! I was going to post something on the other thread about how this would somehow wind up being Bush's fault, but I didn't to come off as crass. Somehow, I don't think my initial instinct was too far off the mark.

I'm beginning to think that this guy pussed out and had a complete metrosexual breakdown. What an idiot.

Upon further consideration of the article, it seems the guy 'volunteered' his girlfriend. If I were her father he would be wise to be in hiding now rather than making stupid statements to the press.

But to the hardcore leftists (and looking at some of the URLs she proudly listed on her site, she was a hardcore leftist), men who served in the military are stupid, trying to prove their manhood and aren't "smart" enough to understand the artsy fartsy b.s. that her type spews on a regular basis.

Thus, a woman like that dating a soldier just back from Iraq is about as likely as me dating a metrosexual, vegetarian wimp who won't get a job because he's too busy writing "poetry."

Mr. Sparks was farther up the block when Ms. duFresne confronted the attackers

The pansy kept walking away leaving his girlfriend behind to deal with these bastards.

Two observations:

1 - He should be plagued by memories of his cowardice for the rest of his days.

2 - Perhaps, just perhaps, the girl should not have continued to challenge a POS with a gun.

Did anyone point out that he may be brain damaged from the pistol whipping rather than from being a liberal?

This idiot reminds me of a woman I treated at St. Vincent's
in 1972. When I asked who had cut her across the chest (with a straight razor) she replied, "I'm sorry to say it was a black man". I believe should would have been happy to say it was a white man. Such is mind control.
Remember the Dukakis presidential debate when he was asked what he would do if his wife was injured by a violent attacker? He responded similar to this dweeb.

Notice who wrote this story, the Notorious Jennifer 8 Lee, who trashed the apartment the NY Times was renting for her in DC. From the WA Times.

Animal house
She's described as a younger, hipper version of Washington socialite Sally Quinn.
Now, New York Times rising reporter -- and avid partyer -- Jennifer 8. Lee has been slapped with a $60,000 lawsuit, filed in D.C. Superior Court yesterday by her former landlord, Beth Solomon, a Washington lobbyist.
The lawsuit accuses the oddly named scribe (she added the 8 as a teenager to grab name recognition) of trashing the $2,900-a-month Washington penthouse the newspaper rented for her on M Street overlooking Capitol Hill.
"Somebody has got to set a standard here, and I am not going to get pushed around by [Miss Lee] or the New York Times," Miss Solomon told Inside the Beltway yesterday, adding that she has had to repair or replace floors, interior walls, appliances and broken furniture.
"And my baby grand piano, passed down in my family, was destroyed -- they used it as a wet bar," she said.
The 28-year-old Miss Lee's "high-powered and occasionally raucous social circuit" caught the attention of the New York Sun in February, and the paper told of "brunches and barbecues, dinner parties and poker nights, holiday soirees and intimate concerts she hosts on a nearly weekly basis in her penthouse loft."
The paper quoted Adam Kovacevich, former deputy press secretary for Sen. Joe Lieberman's presidential campaign, as saying: "Jenny is the Pamela Harriman and Katharine Graham for D.C.'s younger set."
The lawsuit accuses that younger set -- high-level congressional staffers to influential "newsmakers" -- of defecating on the patio, relieving themselves off the balcony and vomiting in the hallways.

It goes so far as to name Miss Lee's guests -- from conservative activist Grover Norquist and MoveOn.org director Zach Exley to the Times' managing editor, Jill Abramson.
"I have been in this ridiculous negotiation for five months," Miss Solomon told us. "I have been trying to settle this quietly all this time, and getting nowhere."
Miss Solomon said the reporter's attorney, Larry Bank, who has handled legal affairs for the Times, offered as little as $15,000 to repair the damages and said "that's all [Miss Lee] can come up with."
"I said to my attorney, take that offer off the table," she said. "You can walk on me just so far, and then I'm going to stand up for myself."
Miss Solomon said that after she first encountered the "animal house," she sat down with Miss Lee. "I said, 'Jenny, do you have any sense what it feels like to have your home destroyed?' And she just kind of looked at me with this sort of nonexpression."
There was no reaction from Miss Lee, who has returned to New York City.

When I first read about the murder, I thought "hey, what if this guy set up the robbery of his girlfriend." Based on his reaction to her death, maybe I was right.

Would make a great episode for "Law & Order"
