I was speaking with my last week, she is a Speech Pathologists, and she said this would be the next step. The Parkinson's combined with the viral stuff he had going on makes the operation of the airway a very dicy situation.

Ditto to everything you said. This pope's been through a lot, hasn't he?

CNN broke this about a half hour before FOX News did. FOX News is getting spanked in the "breaking news" department.

I pray to see him smiling
like this again. It is my favorite picture of him:

Praying that the good Lord guides his doctors and comforts this dear man. I truly love the Pope and pray that he is healed completely. But as with all things... God's will be done.
Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil, for Thou art with me.

What is the Catholic Stance on this?Heroic measures are not required of any Catholic. Food and water are. If a medical procedure can fairly be determined only to prolong the process of dying, a Catholic can in good conscience decline the procedure. Artificial respiration in his case could easily qualify.

I'm curious as to why a trach would need to be done in the OR.

This thread, with that picture, is going to have me sobbing soon.
God bless him and God save His Church.

I swear since 9/11 anytime there's "breaking news" alerts on the radio, my eyes bulge and momentarily I hold my breath.
I hope the Pontiff's health is returned soon.

The doctor on FNC is saying that this sounds very very serious and the outcome may not be good for the Pope considering his age and health problems
Even more prayers going out

Pneumonia ??
If so .. it's not good news for a man his age with so many health problems
I agree, when a person gets older, the immune system can become weakened, and that person can become bed ridden or die from even something such as a common cold.

Security, caution, etc. Probably on the side of doing the absolute best. Hopefully, that is it.
