Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., fresh from victory in three online presidential straw polls over formidibale candidates, told Joseph Farah's radio audience today he would run for president in 2008 if no other Republican candidate takes the border issue seriously.
"I'll tell you what," he said, "if no one else does, I will do it."
Tancredo is the head of the House Immigration Reform Caucus and has challenged his own party's president on the issue of insecure border and his proposed "guest worker" proposal.
Tancredo said he was encouraged by President Bush's recent meeting with Mexican President Vicente Fox because the U.S. leader told his counterpart he would continue to push for more lenient immigration policies but would not guarantee they would be approved by Congress.
The Colorado congressman said he believes Bush was signaling defeat and giving permission to GOP dissenters to vote their conscience on the issue.

Lou Dobbs over at CNN(Clinton News Network), would say IMO, why quibble over such minor things as term pledges.
Don't think he is a winnable candidate, but I would not mind him in the early primaries keeping the illegal immigration issue in the news.
What ever the field for Republicans will be, we need to have all the competition drop out early so ONE candidate can face the ONE candidate the Democrats will have.
When our new Attorney General is showing up at La Raza meetings, I believe there is little room for the mainstream press to villify Tancredo just because some small number of kooks happen to agree with one aspect of his platform.
After all, the Stormfront types were overwhelmingly in favor of Bush in the last election, while the Black Panther Party was in favor of Kerry. Who cares what these kooks think?
Illegal immigration and its associated issues are a mainstream, middle-America issue that transcends skin color. Period.

Thank you for your response. I believe I have made my case as best I can. I will let my comments stand without further reply.
More lies. NCLR is not affiliated with La Raza Unida or MEChA or the Nation of Aztlan.
Nation of Aztlan-Anti-Semitism, Anti-Zionism
"La Raza," meaning "the nation" or "the race," is a term used by some mainstream Hispanic organizations like the National Council of La Raza, which the NOA(Nation of Aztlan) is not affiliated with and does not represent.
Dubya and Gonzales did not speak at a NOA or MECha or La Raza Unida function. They spoke at the National Council of La Raza. It is a sperate group who you have mistakenly confused with La Raza Unida because you don't understand the culture and now you are too pigheaded to admit you made a mistake. Have a nice day.
I repeat again. that is not the National Council of La Raza's motto. That is the motto of MEChA according to Michelle Malkin. the phrase La Raza is a cultural term that doesn't translate well. You can educate yourself by reading this small essay What does "Raza" mean and where does it come from? La Raza Unida and the National Council of La Raza are seperate groups. The National Council of La Raza is a civil rights group not a racist group.
I already read it. It was an amusing piece of denial, sort of like David Duke pretending he's not a racist. National Council of La Raza has close ties to the MEChA which it refuses to renounce, thereby sharing in their sin.
"For those not of the race, nothing" translates perfectly well.
I realize you have some powerful emotional reason for not wanting to believe it, but sooner or later you're going to be forced to admit to yourself that "La Raza" is a racist term, and all who invoke it are racists. Deal with it.
Smart Move.
The only tie they have is both groups have hispanic members. The way some one looks is not good enough proof for me.
Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for finally admitting what "La Raza" means. You are making some progress. Now does an organization that has "the race" in its title sound mainstream to you?
Your constant attempts to defend the indefensible regarding the National Council of "La Raza" is pathetic and quite perplexing. Though technically separate organizations, the NCLR has a long history of working with MECha and other radical subversive separatist Mexican organizations. That each of these groups share the motto "La Raza" and the NCLR has never publicly condemned the other organizations for their radicalism speaks volumes about what the NCLR stands for and where it is coming from.
NAFTA was part of the reason for our expanding economy during the 90's. Because our economy grew so well we were actually able to grow faster than the Federal government could spend and had a few years of balanced budgets.
We have lost the textile industry, steel industry, the electronics industry, whole farms have been sold off, The trucking industry is now feeling the impact.
IBM will be disturbed to hear we lost the electronics industry, and America still feeds the world so the loss of a farm does not frighten me.
Our services industry has been farmed out to India, China now has enormous capital and hard tool manufacturing technology. Computers and peripherals are almost exclusively made overseas.
Our GDP continues to climb even though we have lost manufacturing jobs. Those high pay unskilled jobs are not coming back because Americans can get the product cheaper from other countries and we don't want to pay higher prices because the workers belong to a union. I do not fear other countries doing well economically as long as we continue to grow.
More unprovable lies. The fact that you continue to repeat this unsubstatiated lie without anything to back it up, shows it is a lie. You can't make people believe this lie...no matter how many times you repeat it or how many ways you try to avoid the fact that their is no link between NCLR and MEChA. So you keep going back to the term "La Raza."
The "American" Steel Workers Union is not the same as "American" Family Insurance. The only link they share is the members are American. The only link that La Raza Unida and the National Council of La Raza share is the members of both groups are hispanic or "La Raza" - the race. To condemn all hispanic groups for the "sins" of a few is the very definition of racism. Because you fail to understand this we keep going over the same ground. Spend some time on the concept. Think about it.
This post from Bogolyubski on FR provides a great insight into how the NCLR in conjuction with other radical Mexican groups, share the same agenda and work together in advacing their subversive causes.
That you continue to shill for an organization that has a central mission of promoting a new Hispanic Nation (AZLAN) within the U.S.A. does not say much about your patriotism to this country.
The National Council of La Raza - www.nclr.org is the organization that Dubya and Gonzales spoke to. Your side has consistently lied about this organization by pretending they are an offshoot of La Raza Unida - LaRazaunida.com . La Raza Unida an anti-white Hispanic group that started as a small political party in 1970 and is now inoperative. The National Council of La Raza was started as a civil rights group in 1968 and is not affiliated with MEChA.
None of your links mentions the National Council of La Raza they mention the words "La Raza."
What does "La Raza" mean and where does it come from?
La Raza is a cultural term that translates poorly into English. When translated into Chinese, the Kentucky Fried Chicken slogan "finger-lickin' good" came out as "eat your fingers off". La Raza translates into "the race" or "the nation" or "the people." La Raza is a cultural term that is pervasive in the Hispanic culture. Columbus Day is often celebrated throughout Latin America as the birth of the first Latinoamericanos. The day of La Raza (Día de la Raza).
Racist groups like MEChA and La Raza Unida and Nation of Aztlan would like to claim it for themselves much as the vile groups like the American Nazi Party, American Civil Liberties Union, and Americans for Legal Immigration PAC would like to claim the American title. We have hundreds of organizations with the name American yet nobody thinks this is bigotry against other nations.
Here is another civil rights group with the term La Raza El Centro de la Raza Their "about page" says this:
So, although the founding of El Centro de la Raza was sparked by Latinos and acquired a Spanish name, it began, and remains, "The Center of the People." It is "home" for all people who are interested in making a better and more just world in which, to borrow from Dr. King, "People are judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin." El Centro de la Raza provides a community "plaza," or center for Seattle area's otherwise dispersed, and in 1972, largely invisible Latino community. El Centro de la Raza receives all individuals with open arms.
But they must be racist because they have the term "La Raza" in their name and never repudiated the statements made by La Raza Unida. But...A quick perusal of their web site will dispel that notion just as actually looking The National Council of La Raza web site will dispel any notion that NCLR is racist. Socialist yeah, but racist no.
Here is La Raza 97.9 and here is the page translated by yahoo Translated page.
This radio station in LA advertises their morning shock jock, what bands are playing in the area, and a Latin festival in Six Flags Magic Mountain. Could this be cover for their real plans to rule the world? They must be part of the plot, they have La Raza in their name and never repudiated the statements made by La Raza Unida.
Here is Monterrey LA RAZA Soccer team They call themselves 3-Time Champions and Member of the World Indoor Soccer League, but we know their real purpose. TO DESTROY OUR AMERICAN WAY OF LIFE!!! They have La Raza in their name and never repudiated the statements made by La Raza Unida. There are pictures of children with their index finger in the air...GASP!...it probably stand for the ONE TRUE RACE! La Raza!!! Give me a break.
There are over 2 million hit on a search of La Raza in Yahoo. There are likely hundreds of Hispanic groups with the name La Raza and thousands that reference the term. It doesn't mean what you think it means.
The National Council of La Raza is a advocacy group for Hispanic Americans to overcome bigotry and improve opportunities for its community. They are no more racist than advocacy groups for alcoholics or the blind. MEChA, La Raza Unida, and Nation of Aztlan actually hate white people. There is a difference.
Thank you for pushing me to find the truth. Now that I have you will have a hard time spreading your lies.
