If I *had* to be a Democratic strategist, this is THE issue I would use to get back into the mainstream.

If I had to be a Democratic strategist, I'd exploit this as a wedge issue to split the Republicans apart, while resting comfortably in the knowledge that very few Dems are threatened by the issue, no matter which way it breaks.

I might even hire a few people to stir things up on conservative websites and talk radio stations. But that's just me.

I've already stopped contributing to the GOP over their tacit support of the Reconquista.

Waaaay ahead of you.

Why is it most of you don't seem to get it, or care?

IMO...I think they have made the assesment and have decided that the consequences of closing the borders are more severe than not. If the borders are closed, and millons of mexicans have to go home, the powers have concluded that the American economy will be severly hurt. Restruants will have to close, houses will not get built, yards will not get mowed, ditches will not be dug, roofs will not be installed, cars will not get washed, etc, etc.

I think that the Bush admin has decided that if they close the borders and the economy tanks, then the R's will lose across the board. If they don't, they may be able to overcome the voter fraud because of the laws that are popping up requiring proof of citizenship.

What they are finding out; however, that We, the People are getting involved and insisting that the borders be closed. It is an interesting problem. I want the borders closed...we can deal with the fallout when it happens.

I think PKM has a valid point...there is a lot of Repub bashing that appears to be suspect, a knee jerk reaction to every MSM falsified account of reality. OTOH, the Border issue is very important and does need a certain level of intensity.

No need to hire anybody to stir things up. After Perot many of us saw the error of our ways and have worked to put the GOP at the helm but we have been deceived since and are more disheartened as time goes by. What is wrong with Nationalism? That is all many of us are asking. Without nationalism we have no nation. Is that what we as a government desire? It is suicide to not pursue the right course.

You say the Dems are not interested, in what, borders, language, culture? I think you are mistaken because if they were not we would either have Al Gore or John Kerry as our President because without the votes from Democrats the GOP can not win a national contest. In some states like NH, even the GOP voted for Kerry because of dissatisfaction with GWB. It works both ways. I will stipulate that there is no need to hire folks to stir the pot.

I have noticed over the years that there are a few here that take it upon themselves to be the Freep-police. I think, like you, that there ought to be more rants.....rants are good.

If a thread like this, discussing an issue of truly national importance crowds out a thread of the Scott Peterson/Michael Jackson ilk, I'm all for it.

BTW, IMO, the border will be THE issue in the upcoming elections.

Assimilation, assimilation, assimilation. The problem we have is the immigration is not controlled. The immigrants are not expected to become Americans, we are now bilingual and quickly becoming multicultural. Thank you liberal judges, ruling that ballots must be in several languages, drivers license tests are in different languages, motor voter registration, and of course provisional ballots. All measures traced back to activist liberal judges.

It works both ways? Really? OK, spell it out for me. Under what immigration policy scenario will a meaningful number of Democrats vote for the GOP, while hanging onto all the GOP votes?

Woah, bad edit. Rephrase: Under what immigration policy scenario will a meaningful number of Democrats vote for the GOP, while the GOP hangs onto all the its votes?

How true!

President Bush needs to be out front and in his plain spoken AMerican tell dumb arse Americans that he is allowed an up and down vote just like prior Presidents whose nominees have made it out of committee.

If he has any damn capital he best spend it on this and NOW!

True, but it still doesn't change the fact that 187 was poorly written and that Pete Wilson was otherwise a RINO/Country-Club horse's ass.

And that's why the DemocRats are fighting tooth-and-nail for the filibuster. They don't want to lose the only branch of government that will legislate for them: partisan judges.
