A Reputation in Tatters - Time To Impeach Bush (by Paul Craig Roberts)

A Reputation in Tatters

George W. Bush and his gang of neocon warmongers have destroyed America’s reputation. It is likely to stay destroyed, because at this point the only way to restore America’s reputation would be to impeach and convict President Bush for intentionally deceiving Congress and the American people in order to start a war of aggression against a country that posed no threat to the United States.

America can redeem itself only by holding Bush accountable.

As intent as Republicans were to impeach President Bill Clinton for lying about a sexual affair, they have a blind eye for President Bush’s far more serious lies. Bush’s lies have caused the deaths of tens of thousands of people, injured and maimed tens of thousands more, devastated a country, destroyed America’s reputation, caused 1 billion Muslims to hate America, ruined our alliances with Europe, created a police state at home, and squandered $300 billion dollars and counting.

America’s reputation is so damaged that not even our puppets can stand the heat. Anti-American riots, which have left Afghan cities and towns in flames and hospitals overflowing with casualties, have forced Bush’s Afghan puppet, “President” Hamid Karzai, to assert his independence from his U.S. overlords. In a belated act of sovereignty, Karzai asserted authority over heavy-handed U.S. troops whose brutal and stupid ways sparked the devastating riots. Karzai demanded control of U.S. military activities in Afghanistan and called for the return of the Afghan detainees who are being held at the U.S. prison in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

Abundant evidence now exists in the public domain to convict George W. Bush of the crime of the century. The secret British government memo (dated July 23, 2002, and available here), leaked to the Sunday Times (which printed it on May 1, 2005), reports that Bush wanted “to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. . . . But the case was thin. Saddam was not threatening his neighbors, and his WMD capability was less than that of Libya, North Korea or Iran. . . . The (United Kingdom) attorney general said that the desire for regime change was not a legal base for military action. There were three possible legal bases: self-defense, humanitarian intervention or UNSC (U.N. Security Council) authorization. The first and second could not be the base in this case. Relying on UNSCR 1205 of three years ago would be difficult.”

This memo is the mother of all smoking guns. Why isn’t Bush in the dock?

Has American democracy failed at home?

I really hope they try to use the 'Downing Street Memo'... it will backfire on them because that memo explains how the military was concerned that Saddam will use his WMDs against our troops and describes steps we needed to take to protect our troops. The left conveniently leaves this paragraph out when quoting the memo, instead hoping to somehow create something out of the phrase 'fixed the intelligence'.. for all they know, the writer meant they were compiling and proofreading.. (which is more logical in the context of the whole document!)

I'll venture to guess that Paul Craig Roberts has been a respected conservative commentator longer than you have been drawing breath.

Whatever. Do you agree with this column or not?

Roberts was once the Supply Side Hero of the Reagan Administration.

The grinning "what me worry" current administration bears more resemblance to the LBJ administration than to Reagan's.

Put a sock in it, Roberts.

What a sad loss to the conservative movement.

I think the first Muslim Mohammad started the hate. He wrote to hide in a ditch or behind a tree and kill infidels 400 years ago. The crusades were started after the "religion of peace" had captured much of Spain and much of europe. Therefore the Muslims hated the first person from europe that came to America, who ever that was. They have trained up many liberals with the hate but not the guts to go out and fight. They just lie!

You are so right. The Muslim world has always hated us no matter who was President, it's just that the Democrats have been too stupid to catch on. Therefore, their view as expressed in this article.

Both wrong ever hear the little tune that has as a line "to the shores of tripoli", hate started before that and didn't end there.

Is this what has become of the far-Right? Its seething hatred of President Bush knows no bounds, and is comparable to anything the Leftists can offer.

No argument from me.

BTW, your "far right" was THE right before the advent of the little "compassionate conservative" and his neoconservativeliberal compatriots!

Perhaps he doesn't know that the Congress has the power to declare war?

That's not an argument, but rather spouting worthless slogans. Do you agree with PCR's column or not? Yes or no, please.

I think the first Muslim Mohammad started the hate.

But the US didn't exist back in 622 AD. They couldn't hate the US till the US existed and they had an opportunity to find out about us. Since they didn't do much ocean crossing, that would have been due to our response to the Barbary pirates.

George W. Bush and his gang of neocon warmongers have destroyed America’s

heh, heh...I think it is safe to say regarding the above OUTRAGEOUS statment that the following is more like it:

The 60's
Hanoi Jane hangin' out with the enemy
johnny kerry lying before a committee about his brothers in arms
Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll
Vietnam Protestors
Don't trust anyone over 30,
Flower Power
Burning draft cards
Burning bras
Burning the American Flag is what destroyed America!!!

So, Chronicles...keeping in mind that the worm turns, justice prevails and Adults are running the country and bringing it back to civility once again. We all know that to be true. Why else all the flap about judges????? Batten down the hatches it's gonna be huge storm.

Or, unless LUNATICS on THEIR side use things like flushing Korans down toilets to incite a lot of people who seem to have an unnatural propensity for allowing themselves to be whipped into a riotous, murderous mob because of some perceived slight against their religion or their honor.

But, maybe that's just me. Maybe we will be the ones to call them nasty names and start the war.

I think the other poster meant to imply we didn't try to get the Germans to like us before or during the war. So I think he was right on the first count.

I agree with you, though, we are not at war with all muslims. The question I have, is what percentage of the total muslim population who become "salamikazes" will it take before we have to ask whether we are at war with all of them or not?

I would certainly say we are at war with Male, Muslim Fanatics between the ages of 16 and 50. If we don't realize that yet, I don't know what will make us get there.

They believe they can impeach the whole administration.

They'll still have an R as president, though- Ted Stevens -but they haven't thought that far ahead.
