LOS ANGELES -- A crowd assembled around a motorist being forcefully subdued by police eventually dispersed early Thursday, not far from demonstrators protesting an officer-involved shooting that left a baby dead, police said.
The gathering of the two groups prompted the LAPD to go on citywide tactical alert, which was later scaled down to a South Bureau tactical alert, a Los Angeles police officer said.
The incident involving the motorist started when a man who led police on a short pursuit that ended in his driveway at 84th Street and Towne Avenue shortly after 10 p.m. The man, whose name was not released, allegedly charged at two officers who had tried to pull him over for a traffic violation, police said.
As the officers struggled to take the man into custody, citizens filled the street, some of them agitated because of the protest taking place at 104th Street and Avalon Boulevard, police said.
The crowd at Towne Avenue dispersed around 11 p.m., but demonstrators at Avalon Boulevard continued to wave signs and chant slogans condemning police tactics, police said, and part of the the street was closed by police.
You never know when you need to wear the flame suit here.
Anyone here who needs to run out and buy ammunition now is already lost.
Say goodbye to them now, should it come down to that.
It will not, but you can say goodbye just in case.
9-11 taught us a lot, didn't it?
Hopefully, we'll never have to use weapons because of riots or whatever, but best to be prepared.
BLOATing by law-abiding citizens is far from irresponsible.
I suggest "A Nation of Cowards" to start your remediatory reading program.
Try Nomex.
Oh for Pete's sake. I would advise ammunition purchases to freepers any day of the year. You never know when ammo will be outlawed. I also advise tobacco purchases whether or not you smoke, as well as high-fat foods, and low mpg SUVs.
Search the web for the King riots and look for the Korean shopkeepers.
Not my children if the Admins are going to put up with your swearing.
We lived in Anaheim..and I remember my dad making sure our garden hoses were long enough to soak all the roofs...if need be.
My dad wasn't the only one who thought that trouble couldn't come to their neighborhoods...30-40 miles away or not.
FWIW-
your father was a smart man who was willing to read between the lines. I am not willing to wait even way down here in South OC. Besides, it's a choice to be prepared and/or well stocked up for ANY type of emergency or civil disturbance regardless of what "it" is.
And a smart choice it is.....
FRegards,
I don't know what the truth of the baby shooting is, it sure looks clean though. The enevitable result will hurt many innocent people. You can be sure the people "demonstrating" are not the people getting hurt (unless someone shoots them in self defense once the riot starts.)
Are you really that clueless or are you trolling? I personally think you are clueless.
City on tactical alert after group of two hundred attacked several patrol cars. Two spanish language media outlets have been reporting slain suspect was unarmed and assassinated by officers.
I disagree. Although I lived here during the LA riots...I did NOT know that ammo sales were cut off. I'm a law abiding citizen with the wish and hopefully NEVER the need to defend my family. Had he not mentioned this...I wouldn't have known.
Anna, ping to #37
Who are they going to riot against?
Since the Mayor is Hispanic, most of the city leaders are either Hispanic or Black, and most of LAPD is now either Hispanic or Black.
