July 27, 2005 -- For Sonya Dias, when the choice came down to leaving the city she loved and the Victorian home she had painstakingly restored or giving up her dog, there was no contest.
Her house is on the market and her bags are packed, because Denver says she cannot keep her beloved pet, a pit bull named Gryffindor. After several high-profile pit bull attacks, the city enacted a law banning the breed, but Dias insists concern about her pet is unwarranted.

Ok. Here we go.................
While many incidents are directly the fault of the dog owner, many more are the indirect fault of the dog owner for owning a dog which was bred for a far different context than the conditions in which the owner lives.
next it'll be SUVs...........
Some of these dogs are terrible, that's true. But some humans suck pretty badly, too. Can't hate the whole crop.
Dogs don't bite people, ....
Oh, nevermind.
I guess they do.
That doesn't matter, teeny. The MSM has told the proles what to think.
The proles react accordingly.
This is bound to get ugly. Were I on the jury, I'd refuse to convict.
When comparing Pitbulls with the Denver Police in the number of "accidental" killings of people, the DPD maintain a big lead.
Just curious... Do you think pit bulls are more aggressive and prone to vicious attacks than other breeds, generally speaking? Or do you think they no more aggressive and prone to vicious attacks?
Now there is a freedom issue here. I don't think it is unreasonable for people to be allowed to keep vicious breeds, as long as they control them. But as a simple factual matter, do you think there is a difference in aggressiveness between a pit bull and a Labrador retriever?
...sometime, in your spare television watching time, turn to the National Geographic Channel's "The Dog Whisperer" and get back with me. While I agree that the American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentine and Bull Terrier all have roots back to the "pit," they all can be socialized to behave properly--just as Doberman Pinchers, Rottweilers or German Shepherd dogs used in police work will not attack unless ordered by their handler to attack.
The sound-bite sheeple will grab their torches and pitchforks anytime their colorful talking boxes tell them to do so.
Hmmmm. Wonder what they'll do when they come across a Muslim with a pit-bull? Tough times to be politically correct.
I support the ban. Too many pit bulls have attacked too many people and pets. They're just doing what comes naturally, but that doesn't mean they're not a menace. Even the most conscientious owner can make a mistake--dogs get out, or the owner is too sure HIS dog would never attack another animal or person, or a kid gets into the dog's yard.
I sympathize with pit bull owners who are conscientious and do everything possible to keep their dogs under control, but the dogs are just too dangerous.
Aren't there any local Indian squaws who'' have the pit bulls over for dinner?
Exactly.

You are attempting to inject facts, logic and reasoned analysis into this issue. That is laudible, but forlorn in the face of sheeple who have been whipped into a media frenzy.
...of course so-called pitbulls are agressive BUT they CAN and SHOULD be socialized to behave by responsible owners. The keyword here is "responsible owner" because not everyone should own a so-called pitbull..just as you wouldn't want to place a .357-magnum in the hands of a child, an aggressive breed of dog (or any breed of dog for that matter) should not be owned by persons not able to become a pack leader. Dogs are naturally social animals and need a dominant, nurturing forceful to be happy and contented. More than 90 percent of attacks involving pitbulls were cases in which the dog was chained and abused or encouraged to become aggressive (a favored tactic with drug dealers).
