Thunderbirds performance cut short after object falls from plane

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds canceled an aerial performance Sunday because of safety concerns following a midair accident at the Chicago Air and Water Show that sent an object on one of the group's F-16s plummeting into Lake Michigan.

The aerial acrobatic team cut short their performance Saturday when two of the jets made contact while they were flying in formation and a missile rail was dislodged. On Sunday, the team announced that it would not perform again until an investigation into the incident could be completed.

Our local NBC affiliate reported contact between Nos. 3 and 4 resulted in loss of the missile rail and wingtip damage to both aircraft.

Cant wait till they the are here at AFW next month. On my last shift I was sitting out on the ramp

watching some refuelers and without my radio. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, Blue Angels 1 3 4 & 5 make a low level fly by and buzz the tower

and then directly over me! Then they circled back into the pattern to land and refuel. A little later the others did the same.

Really nice suprise. We listened as they were talking of their flight plans back to Florida then they left.

Except number 2 who developed some sort of problem and stayed the night then left in the morning. >P>If you've ever been up close to the Angels or Thunderbirds you would wonder that things didn't fall off every time they go up!

They are patched up and touched up all over the fueselage!lol A whole lot of bumpin going on and they don't always get the newest planes if you know what I mean. Just the newest and brightest paint.

I was in Nellis, in the parking lot at Las Vegas Speedway, 50,000 cars, when they made a 100 foot pass, just screaming.

Must have been 5,000 car alarms went off for close to a minute. Really funny.

I got to see some of their practice session on Friday. I was having lunch with a prospective employer at the time.

We were standing outside a North Side coffee shop when they screamed over us.

I said "That's the sound of freedom gentlemen."

Last year I sat on top of an Aircraft Rescue vehicle out on the end of the runway for the whole performance.

I was right in line for almost every single low level flyover. And I mean right frigging over me and I was ten feet off the ground. And youre right, they are screaming!!

When Fat Albert took off the Jet assist lit off the grass in between runways. The airboss called us to go put it out,

then later the Tower bitched at us because we didnt also get permission from them even though the Airboss is in complete control.

Luckily my captain ain't afraid to go straight up the tower and tell the contoller how the cow ate the cabbage.

You betcha! And if the lib/dem/lefties in this country don't stop aiding and abetting the enemy that sound of freedom will no longer be there becuase NONE of us will be here including the lib/dem/lefties but...they are too damned ignorant to know it.
