Come tomorrow night, Arnold Schwarzenegger might be wishing he stuck to movie stardom and real estate barony rather than trying to save California from itself—wishing instead that he were perhaps lounging on the French Riviera with fellow Europhiles such as Johnny Depp and Gweneth Paltrow in salons where the conversations inevitably come around to trashing President Bush and those American boorish boobs that voted for him.
But instead he’s spending his days being trashed by California’s myriad special interests: fireman, teachers, nurses, cops, public employee unions, city, county and statewide elected officials, trial lawyers, illegal alien activists and the vast legions of the state’s rental mobs, anarchists, and duped do- gooders.
This is a large list of trashers that he has attracted to himself. But after last week, when the Field Poll showed that his four key reform initiatives are all in danger of defeat in California’s special election tomorrow, the list of Arnold-bashers was expanded to include national players like the Democratic National Committee, Moveon.org and sadly, even some Republicans in Congress.

I suspect there is a strong possibility most if not all of the initiatives will succeed.
California polls can't be trusted. Just ask Governor Bustamante.
There are no politicians on the ballot, and its an off-off-year election. Few Californians really care about the issues on the ballot. There is going to be especially low voter turnout. The largest voter turnout will be spurred on by Proposition 73, the parental notification abortion initiative. These people are also far more inclined to support Arnold's amendments.
I don't know how accurate the polls are in capturing the mood of Californians, but I don't think it matters. I don't believe these polls reflect the attitude of the people who will be showing up en masse to vote on Tuesday. That is all that matters.

Before the official certification. I'm sure the briefs are prepared, and a friendly judge is on-call to receive them, just in case.
It is up to the people of California to shut these special interest groups up.
They already challenged their right to be on the ballot at all.
A partisan judge initially struck some down, but then was reversed by a higher court.
But, then, the French do not understand the French - a "93" versus a "75" on your car's license plate makes you a stranger.

Oh for God's sake. The Republicans have their position, the Democrats oppose it. They attack the Republicans on their issues and the Republicans attack back. There is nothing devious about that. It's all out in the open.

"75" - the car is from Nice/Cannes or on of the nearby towns, mine is from Mougins.
The French from Paris view those from Nice as foreigners ... and reverse is also true. Well, for those on the Cote d'Azur - hatred probably captures the spirit more correctly.
Something like that is experienced in Northern Virginia, near DC, when a Virginia driver gets cut off by one of those rude drivers with MD plates. :)
You know I don't think that I can recall a single Kerry rally on the tube that didn't have a heckler in it. I guess that was the GOP being devious?
