I don't think any real Christian eschatologist believes that man can do anything to speed up God's prophetic timetable. The time of Jesus return to earth was set before the foundation of the world, and is known only to the Father. No one is going to speed it up by evangelizing the world.

However, (side point)...a lot of us participate in prayer pings on FR (me, too). From what you said, isn't that messin' with God's timetable?

It's a conundrum that's always fascinated me....

You raise an interesting point. We are told in scripture to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and in other places in scripture we are told that Jerusalem and the entire world will not know real peace until Jesus returns to sit on his Millennial throne in that city. I suppose you could take that to mean we should pray for a soon return of Jesus.

Nevertheless, I believe there is a set time for all prophesied future events known only to God, and trying to somehow manipulate God into hurrying things up ahead of his schedule is not going to work.

Yes no one including Jesus knows the exact time. However, Revelations gives some clues about when the time in near. Near is of coarse an unkown time. And my goodness the Great Comission is what Christians are supposed to do. It is one thing that has to happen before the end but bring the Word of God to the entire nations is what God wants one to do. These type of articles are written by non christians to scare those who are not. I am really tired of the Left bashing Christanty.

Well, I'm a firm believer that praying does not mess with God's timetable, because real prayer is not ASKING God for anything...it is a show of humbleness before Him, a self-yielding to His will and plan.

Then, God will move for your life as a result of said self-yielding.

For example, God doesn't listen to people who pray out of selfishness...a prayer to win the lottery, or a new big-screen TV, will fall on deaf ears.

Yeah, we're not supposed to evangelize the world to speed up Jesus's return...we're supposed to do it to save souls from going to Hell.

Once heard it said,

You can be pre-trib
a mid-trib
a post-trib
Just don't be a Post-Toastie

I've got an Eternal Life policy... The premiums were paid with the Shed Blood of The Lamb.

Amen.

I see the latest ranting and raving as just another manifestation of the "Why do the heathen rage?" thing.

They really can't help themselves, they are possessed. It's the only explanation that explains the carryings on of the left.

to read some scriptures that discusses how you will know, the days will be full of people who are idolaters, of men lying with men, and women with women, of abominations applauded by many, in essence of much of mankind forsaking any pretense of being a holy creation, rather pursing sins of the flesh , being debaucherous, licentious, just downright decrepit in their carryings on.

one need only look to popular culture and present day media to see these things documented and cheered on.

the satellite and dish and missions to the deepest parts of the earth's jungles to reach their remote and aloof tribes have made the great Commission nigh complete. Packing an overnight bag may be a thing of the past and not an issue much longer. ;-)

True but anything a newspaper writes about christianty is suspicious. I agree with you it is to save souls. However it is in Revelation that mentions all nations will know before the end. How many people pray Lord Jesus Come. Does that mean they want the world to end and all nonbelivers to die and go to hell. No. But Christians do believe in and end times or the second Advent or the return of Jesus or how ever you want to put it. The LA Times puts their spin on things.

some Jewish groups in Jerusalem hope to clear the path for their own messiah by rebuilding a temple on a site now occupied by one of Islam's holiest shrines.
Artisans have re-created priestly robes of white linen, gem-studded breastplates,
<-snip-> along with two 6½-ton marble cornerstones for the building's foundation.

Now if they can only find out who the Levites are among them, they can do this properly. Even better, figure out that they missed out on the Messiah's first appearance about 1977 years ago.

Christ can come back at any time.

Even Jesus had no idea of the hour. He could come back TOMORROW!

Tho I do find it funny when so many Christians shout "But..Israel this! Israel that!".

And I'm sure Christ would find it funny as well.

Their endgame is to speed the promised arrival of a messiah.

Uhm, "a messiah"? That would be what the Jews would be waiting for. Christians have already identified Jesus as "the messiah" and we are waiting for his return.

"The End may be near/But I have no fear/Because I'll have plenty of beer/For when the Saviour gets here."

I sometimes wonder..since He turned water into wine, would he drink beer at a football game? What kind?

real prayer is not ASKING God for anything

However...I am NOT making this up...

I was on the 9th floor of an apartment building in the 1989 San Francisco earthquake...(I had just sat down with a "soda pop" to watch the World Series)...when I was in the doorway (lame, I know), praying, "Make it stop. Make it stop. Make it stop."

I was definitely praying FOR something....

We like to think it was unfermented grape juice.

Amen DD, my eternal salvation cost me nothing, but the price was beyond calculation to the One who did pay.

Nope. It said wine. Not grape juice.

But to each his own opinion.

All three doctrines arise out of denying the unconditional promises made to Israel by God. There's large parts of the Bible you must lay aside to subscribe to these.
