Prayer request for my friend's son/Vanity

A prayer request for a dear friend of mine, whose son has been suffering from a liver disease for a number of years. Things, as you will see from my friend's email (in quotes), have taken a turn, and your prayers are needed and appreciated. Thanks so much....

"Tom remains in the Intensive Care Unit. His Gastroenterologist performed a colonoscopy Saturday morning and discovered his colon was filled with ulcers, hence Ulcerated Colitis, a condition that often occurs in a patient with PSC, Primary Sclerosing Colongitis, and is a big problem. So much so that an ulcer literally weakened the outer layer of an artery which resulted in massive bleeding.

Fortunately, an ambulance trip to the hospital saved him from bleeding out on Friday night. He was stablized until the colonoscopy. The Doctor merely touched the damaged artery and it burst. He clamped it in several places and thus far it has held. A surgeon will decide whether to perform an angioplasty which can be a minimumly invasive procedure during another colonoscopy. If the Ulcerative Colitis persists they may need to remove the colon, a surgical procedure vastly improved over the past several years.

Meanwhile, he is still recovering from Mono and blood tests will determine whether his PSC has advanced to another level. Out of the three liver enzymes, the billiruben is most important. If it is sharply elevated he may be on his way to being added to the long list for a donor liver.

He is resting comfortably at present and knows there are a lot of people praying for his recovery. We are so very grateful for your prayers. It's in God's hands and I can't think of a better place to be."

Again, thank you for any prayers. They mean more than words can convey. -Leigh Ann in Michigan

Tom is probably in his early 40s. (I know his sister is about my age, 37, so I think he's in that area as well.) Two kids, wife, great family. He's been suffering from the PSC for years, and has gotten some relief though experimental therapy, but the other issues (ulcerative colitis, a bout with mono, etc) have really hit him.
Your prayers are wonderful, and I so much appreciate them. I will forward them in a day or so to Tom's father, with whom I've been friends for years. I am sure that his dad will share them with him. There isn't much more I can say except 'thank you, and God bless'.

Had to respond to your post.

I am a 60 year old male and had PSC for many years. I had a liver transplant in 1991 after nearly dying from esophegal bleeding a few times. My liver disease was also due to ulcerative colitis - I had colon cancer twice and now have no colon at all - I have an ileostomy and wear a bag. BUT I am alive and doing quite well so tell Tom that he can survive this even though it is very tough - I am living proof.

I'll be thinking and praying as well and keep us posted.
