On Ann Coulter - Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic. (conservatives respond)

Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic.

I guess you could say that Ann loves to shock us, but at this point, who’s shocked? She obviously can’t behave well enough to attend a respectable political gathering. It’s not a lack of intelligence. It’s an indifference to self-control and a preening sort of narcissism that compels her to need the spotlight, even if it’s unflattering.

(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s audio of her calling John Edwards a “faggot” at CPAC today.)

---

Michelle Malkin -

***4:15pm update***

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."

A smattering of laughter.

Not from this corner.

Crickets chirping.

---

Bryan Preston of 'Hot Air' -

Ann Coulter is speaking at CPAC as I write. As is typical, she gave a brief speech full of her usual witticisms, including a few brilliant attacks on Al Gore’s green hypocrisy. All was good. Untill the last few seconds, when she launched into a joke about John Edwards.

Here’s what she said.

“I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”

I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.

Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

Thanks, Ann.

My comments... what should have been a day to celebrate a Reaganesque speech by Duncan Hunter, and good speeches by Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee was overshadowed by an unhinged comment by Ann Coulter. She is an absolute idiot for saying something like this at CPAC.

"The way the Dems SUCK up to gays, you would figure this would be a compliment."

Democrat-ick logic: "You can't call my faggot friend a faggot and get away with it, only I can call my faggot friend a faggot and get away with it."

I agree, the things that ELECTED democrats in official positions of power regularly say about the president are worse than this. I don't see any reason to be outraged. The other side is the one that regularly calls honorable people terrorists, liars, thiefs, morons, etc ad nauseum. This does not even begin to approach the racial comments and cartoons they publish about Secratary Rice, Justice Thomas or others as far as offensiveness goes. Why all the outrage over these comments?

I really hate what politics has come to.

LOL! You really need to read more. Today's politics is quite tame compared to the good old Revolutionary or Civil War days.

I repeat--the likes of the Dixie Chicks would try to make this an issue of free speech.

Non sequitur. Ann hasn't insisted that people are somehow obligated to buy her books or book her appearances.

"I can't believe anyone would defend her."

I'll defend her. She has been doing this schtick for ten years. All of a sudden she is "over the top?"

Ann Coulter throws bombs. I know it, you know it, everyone to the right of George Bush knows it and CPAC knows it. Why is this suprising anyone?

Cindy Sheehan calls Bush a Nazi and a terrorist and she is called courageous. Coulter makes a joke that is in reference to another incident and Conservatives are throwing her under the bus.

This is why the country is going to the left. The way you change radical ideology is go 180 the other way. The lefties cry, whine and complain and we say, "aww, what can we do to make it better?" We should be saying "tough S%$t."

The incessant "Shocked, shocked, I say" postings do show a divide on the Right.

A divide between those hungry enough for victory and those who will, eventually, become content licking the boots of their new masters.

Chains will never rest lightly upon me. Therefore, I respect Coulter's talents and abilities to be a polemical leader of the masculine and virile Right.

Are we so cowed by charges of political incorrectness that we're actually afraid to slam a contemptuous and effeminate Democrat piece of fecal matter? Ann has bigger ones than most Republicans and conservatives. She's not running for office or anything and is welcome to speak her mind about the whole bunch of liberal fools that plague us. Ain't freedom great?

Ann scored a grand slam, and many don't even realize it.

Unfortunately many Freepers are not immune to the influence of the MSM.

Free speech is constrained in the USA today with liberals leading the PC charge.

Whether or not Ann should have made a comment, given that she did, how could she have conveyed the same message yet remain politically correct?

Would the Edward's website comments in the aftermath been less "hateful" towards Ann if she would have referred to john as "appearing seemingly gay-like," in her remarks? How about using Howard Dean's and Al Gore's term, "metro"? Would "effeminate" have sufficed?

The speech police should indictate what words they prefer.

Oh, yes, cite Craig Kilborn, a late night talk show host. Cite comments from his show several times to make your point. PSSSTT--You have no point.

I was more upset with Ann over the "Cleaning Lady" comment she made concerning Harriet Meyers than this.
The term is only offensive because some people have decided to be offended by it.
You'll have to figure out what term I'm referring to as I'm wishing to avoid rehab.

Making sense???? I thought just the opposite.

At "CPAC!"...so what! She was among Conservatives not a bunch of stupid "lieberals".

The brouhaha over this non issue is just .. so gay.
Faggot:
"male homosexual," 1914, Amer.Eng. slang (shortened form fag is from 1921), probably from earlier contemptuous term for "woman" (1591), especially an old and unpleasant one, in reference to faggot (1) "bundle of sticks," as something awkward that has to be carried (cf. baggage). It was used in this sense in 20c. by D.H. Lawrence and James Joyce, among others. It may also be reinforced by Yiddish faygele "homosexual," lit. "little bird." It also may have roots in Brit. public school slang fag "a junior who does certain duties for a senior" (1785), with suggestions of "catamite," from fag (v.). This was also used as a verb.

Other obsolete senses of faggot were "man hired into military service simply to fill out the ranks at muster" (1700) and "vote manufactured for party purposes" (1817). The oft-heard statement that male homosexuals were called faggots in reference to their being burned at the stake is an etymological urban legend. Burning was sometimes a punishment meted out to homosexuals in Christian Europe (on the suggestion of the Biblical fate of Sodom and Gomorah), but in England, where parliament had made homosexuality a capital offense in 1533, hanging was the method prescribed. Any use of faggot in connection with public executions had long become an English historical obscurity by the time the word began to be used for "male homosexual" in 20th century American slang, whereas the contemptuous slang word for "woman" (and the other possible sources or influences listed here) was in active use.

To all the perpetually offended - Lighten Up Francis.

Okay... you forced my hand. Getting the audio where Ann Coulter called for the impeachment of President Bush on the Mike Rosen show (850am KOA) here in Denver AND she was serious.
