On Ann Coulter - Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic. (conservatives respond)

Idiotic. Disgusting. Stupid. Moronic.

I guess you could say that Ann loves to shock us, but at this point, who’s shocked? She obviously can’t behave well enough to attend a respectable political gathering. It’s not a lack of intelligence. It’s an indifference to self-control and a preening sort of narcissism that compels her to need the spotlight, even if it’s unflattering.

(For those of you who don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s audio of her calling John Edwards a “faggot” at CPAC today.)

---

Michelle Malkin -

***4:15pm update***

Ann Coulter just finished her riff on Al Gore, tossed out some cute jokes ("You can understand why Hollywood is concerned about global warming. You know what heat does to plastic."), and ended with a cheap one-liner about John Edwards being a "faggot." (Paraphrasing) She said she would refrain from commenting on Edwards because "if you say faggot, you have to go to rehab."

A smattering of laughter.

Not from this corner.

Crickets chirping.

---

Bryan Preston of 'Hot Air' -

Ann Coulter is speaking at CPAC as I write. As is typical, she gave a brief speech full of her usual witticisms, including a few brilliant attacks on Al Gore’s green hypocrisy. All was good. Untill the last few seconds, when she launched into a joke about John Edwards.

Here’s what she said.

“I’d say something about John Edwards, but if you say ‘faggot’ you have to go to rehab.”

I’m no fan of John Edwards, but that’s just a stupid joke. It’s over the line. The laughter it generated across the room was more than a little annoying.

Last year it was “raghead.” This year it’s calling John Edwards a “faggot.” Two years in a row, Coulter has finished up an otherwise sharp CPAC routine with an obnoxious slur that liberals will fling at conservatives for years to come.

Thanks, Ann.

My comments... what should have been a day to celebrate a Reaganesque speech by Duncan Hunter, and good speeches by Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee was overshadowed by an unhinged comment by Ann Coulter. She is an absolute idiot for saying something like this at CPAC.

Ann Coulter is a shrill embarassment to all thinking conservatives.

So. why is it necessary to pander to a miniscule minority of the conservative movement?

Coulter remains much the child that will do or say anything for attention. Look at me! Look at me! Look at me!

Conservatism is defined by maturity. Ann is neither.

"People are afraid of words. They fear words. Pathetic. This is the perfect example of the evil of political correctness. Ann scored a grand slam, and many don't even realize it."

I realize it! Ann was making a very strong statement, about hate crimes laws and about people being placed in rehab because of a word they utter. And just how patently ridiculous that is! I am so sick of people whining, and even govt legislating, about peoples "feelings". It has become, in this PC world, practically illegal to hurt anyones feelings. And it is thought and speech control plain and simple. Just as the bills before congress in WA and in many states, proposing hate crimes laws are.

That is the real issue Ann was addressing. While even murder is no reason to have hate crimes laws to protect various groups. There already is a statute for discovering why someone committed a crime, any crime, it's called "motive", hate crimes laws are solely for speech and thought control.

If that distinction is important to you, understand the following:

1. We are far better off embracing Mexicans generally than by embracing practitioners of sexual perversion individually or generally.

2. Demonrats used that insight sparingly in the last election to nominate and elect some conservative Demonrats to Congress. Now that they won the 2006 election by fraud, those same Demonrat Congresscritters have to vote and develop a voting record that can and will be used against them. Their majority is built on fraud and it will be wrecked on the rocks of that fraud.

3. Reagan did not bring many pro-aborts or pro-lavenders to the GOP as "moderate Republicans." What Reagan did was to be himself, the embodiment of the solid values of his generation, accurately described as the "greatest generation." When the execrable columnist Drew Pearson wrote a column about a ring of homosexuals operating in the California GOP and in Reagan's early governorship, Reagan went after Pearson for being arrested on morals charges in St. Louis in the World War I era and Pearson never ventured another word about Reagan. Reagan also fired the offenders who were also taking teenaged boys to Lake Tahoe. One of those fired ("sent to explore the politics of New Hampshire" in 1967) was the well-known Philip Battaglia for those who remember the incident.

4. What Reagan did bring to the GOP were those socially conservative and economically somewhat liberal Democrats whose party had left them as it had left Reagan decades earlier. Labor union members who were avidly religious. Military veterans who gagged over McGovernism while being unoffended by Social Security. Patriots who despised feckless sell-out foreign/military policy. People who were lifelong Democrats but were terminally offended by the imbecile from Plains, Georgia, etc. You may call them "moderate" Democrats. They were never "moderate" Republicans. Guns, God, Babies, Marriage, low taxes on people of modest means, Kick Ass Foreign Policy, etc.

5. Some of these folks are leaving the GOP because of PC wimpishness, toleration of "Log Cabin" "Republicans", an extended war in which the gummint is often more interested in prosecuting soldiers than in killing the enemy, and economic policies that reward (through "free" "trade" and tax policy) people other than them and punish them economically.

"Compared to the tirades that the leaders of the left, ie, Bela Pelosi, et al; spew out, Ann's remark was almost a compliment."

Indeed. Judging from the Dems insistence that being gay is not only OK but its good and preferable to being normal then the label faggot should be a badge of honor.

It doesn't?

The scales fell from my eyes regarding Annie only a year or so ago, when I realized that her contributions to the GOP had reached a point of diminishing returns.
She is a loose cannon and she doesn't give a damn about anyone but herself.
That doesn't make me a DU troll, genius.

Of course not.
It just makes you a --- ummm...

Worm.

I agree, Coulter stepped over the line.

It's important that Republicans and conservatives send a message that we are not a party of hate.

She has no idea how much damage she has caused with her stupid remarks.

You are totally right. There is a lack of character displayed by Ann here and others do it as well. An absence of common decency is NOT a conservative value.

I hear so many on this site talk about lines they won't cross. And yet this is the same thing. It is an unwillingness to adhere to principle.

I'm so tired of political correctness that I don't care what she said. We need people to offend the ruling religion once in a while. The homo's can call each other "queer," but don't anyone else do it.

People bow to the idols of PC, like they are in mass, exactly on cue, heaping condemnation on free speech and trying to climb over one another to show they aren't racist, sexist, homo-whatever. It's brainwashing and it's Marxist. It's self congratulatory liberalism on display.

Fox broadcast the Coulter story every hour last night, but when the Democrats say and do outrageous things, get involved in scandal and conflict of interest, there's no story anywhere. I'm sick of this. Ann isn't running for anything. Sic em' Ann.

Well of course she can't hold a candle to all you have done for the cause.

(That's a joke, for all the humor impaired on this thread.)
