In Dubrovnik, Politician Interrupts Orchestra Concert and Assaults Manager (Croatia)

A member of the Dubrovnik city council broke into a concert by the city's symphony orchestra earlier this month, threatened the guest conductor, and attempted to strangle and then head-butted the orchestra's chief executive, reports the website Javno.hr.

The incident happened on May 11 outside the Knezev Dvor, the 15th-century Rector's Palace whose atrium is often used for performances. The Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kristijan Rista Savic of Wiesbaden, Germany, was playing for about 235 guests, when Marko Vuletic, a city councilor for the HSP (Croatian Party of Rights, a nationalist party), and two unidentified accomplices tried to enter the palace and stop the concert.

The orchestra's manager, Pero Sisa, 51, stopped the three men, whereupon Vuletic allegedly grabbed Sisa by the throat.

"I have a concussion, contusion of nose and gums, and I am as blue as the sea," Sisa told Javno. "First he strangled me for a while, but since I am big, he was not successful, so he head-butted me and I passed out."

The attack was reportedly prompted by what Vuletic claimed was Rista Savic's Serbian ethnicity.

"For starters, I don’t count people’s blood cells," Sisa told Javno about the engagement of Rista Savic, "and the gentleman has been a German citizen for 40 years already. He is an excellent artist who has accomplished a lot and should have done even more for this orchestra. I lived through the war years too and I will neither forget nor forgive the war [following the breakup of Yugolsavia], but this has nothing to do with it."

After the incident, the conductor left Dubrovnik and ended his relationship with the orchestra.

For his part, the 47-year-old Vuletic told Javno.com, "I did not hit anybody or do anything to anyone ... I am pressing civil charges against Mr. Sisa."

A Croat defended a Serb from an attack by another Croat. I wonder what would have happened if everything was the other way around.

Anyone know of a similar incident in Belgrade?

Yeah, that would be the news, not how Croatian Nazis behave.

HSP is not nationalist but NAZI party.

In Serbia, Croats can be anything, even Ministers in Government. In Croatia, it is not safe for Serbs, even for Serbs with German passport.

There will be no civilized behavior there until Dubrovnik fall under Italian rule.

Yeah. Italians of Yugoslav extraction. Or former Yugoslavs with Italian passports.

A Croat defended a Serb from an attack by another Croat. I wonder what would have happened if everything was the other way around.

I, a Serb, once defended a Croatian friend from another Serb. It was the only time I've witnessed a Serb being a complete jack ass towards a Croat in Chicago. I've seen the reverse far too often my whole life.

It was here in Chicago at a huge Serbian picnic in Grant Park. There was a maniac Serb from New York City at the picnic that had a tattoo of Arkan on his forearm. Someone told him that my buddy was Croatian and he came up to our little group and very menacingly told my friend he wasn't welcome at the picnic. I told him he should take his ass back to New York because Serbs and Croats get along fine in our old neighborhood (the South East Side of Chicago). He explained how he was the only Serb in a neighborhood full of Croats in New York and was regularly harassed by Croats. He eventually backed down and moved along quietly.

Sometimes being a big scary looking south side Serb has its benefits :-)

HSP is not a Nazi party. The Nazi party was a German phenomenon. HSP is 60 years older than the German Nazi Party.

Considering that Dubrovnik was never under Italian rule nor are there many Italians in Dubrovnik, it’d do you some good to ignore the idiotic ramblings of some Serbs here on FR.

HSP was a party established by Starcevic and Kvaternik and headed by Ante Pavelic from 1917.

Sort of saying that NSDAP headed by Hitler was not a Nazi party.

The Nazi Party was the National Socialist German Workers' Party. I fail to understand how a Croatian political party could be a party for Germany and its workers, and for German nationalism. Secondly, the HSP split into several different groups by the time of Starcevic's death, including the SSP, HSP, and the HCSP (Croatian Pure Party of Rights). The last one was created by the Josip Frank, a Jew. This party was known as the "Frankovci" and was led by Frank until his death in 1911. After that it was led by Alexander Horvat, not Ante Pavelic.

Today's HSP takes its roots not from the Frankovci of the HCSP (an HCSP party already exists today in Croatia, but is practically non-existent), but from the original party formed by Kvaternik and Starcevic.

Hopefully this ends your confusion and you won't engage in further lies.

So, that's where Hitler got the idea!

Croatian sources say otherwise"

Ante Pavelic was head of HSP after 1917, when Starcevic died.

Also in English

The facts speak for themselves. The lies will stop only if you stop spreading them here. No one in the right mind could imagine Goebbels Sqaure in German cities today or NSDAP in German Bundestag.

However, HSP in Croatian parliament and Ante Starcevic Square in Croatian cities are the reality of present day Croatia.
