I say we just get more active as a Political group and move the GOP much the same way MoveOn.Org Moved the Dumbocrats. Biggest difference in the comparison lies in the fact WE care about this Nation, MoveOn doesn’t give a cold crap on a sunless monday about the USA, just its own power.

We can and DO make a difference. Lets keep it up and increase our collective ambitions.

“I believe when principle conservative ideas are presented to people correctly and with passion and conviction, people naturally will be attracted to them”

That is exactly my point!

Ain’t gonna happen. If the GOP nominantes a pro-war candidate, which it will, other pro-war conservatives won’t want to split that vote and elect an antiwar candidate.

It looks like they’re beginning to get a wake up call. I was just reading that our good Congressman Steve King and crappy senator, Tom Harkin got into a shouting match over illegal immigration. Steve is threatening to take on Tommy. That would be high risk but perhaps high reward.

Hunter for one is a solid Conservative, clean record

Clean and solid? I don't think so. Two major black marks are his support (not recanted) for No Child Left Behind and the Medicare Prescription Drugs bill.

GREAT tagline!

Wish I’d thought of that!

It sounds so sanctimonious to say we're just gonna start our own party but in the long run, that attitude hurts more than it helps.

I have an obligation to fight even harder on this issue. A very good friend of mine just died very suddenly a couple of weeks ago. We spent much time debating this very topic. He expressed many times his fear of RATS taking over everything which would bring about the "end game" as he called it.

I couldn't argue with him. He said many times he was greatly concerned about the country that was going to be left for his four young sons.

Losing is not an option.

Ok, Ok....

You guys are obviously right - BAD IDEA born of frustration.

Enough said.

You've been around here long enough so I'm sure you know. FR has had...what 2...3...4 scisms?

How I miss the salad days! (not that I was registered there in the ...ummm...GEnie...no...Prodigy...days/nights when-I-was-a-lurker and JR and few few others were putting it all together.)

FReepers were passionate, archivist, activist, ready to take on anybody or anything and legal ramifications be danged.

Oh...and GEEKNESS played a HUGE part!

Then reality hit, although I STILL wonder how the "Fair Use" act applies to someone passing along a newspaper on a bus or in a cafe would apply...I digress.

FR was not just a grass roots conservative movement as much as it was a discovery of how many like-minded, conservative people were ready to answer the call to arms. Ted and Thunder's ride to DC was a milestone. So many of us welcomed or watched for them during the impeachemnt.

Then there was the Klamath Falls stand off. How imspiring when the "FR calvary" rode in with the American flags waving high!

These milstones - and MANY more - brought FReepers together.

As much as FR evolves, I defy anyone to go to any of the splinter groups and find similar passion.

WE tolerate the rino's ...deal with the tin foil hat brigade (I'm a member in good standing BTW, hehehehehe!)...but by and large FReepers are good, decent God fearing, built-this-country-with-the-tools-on-hand-and-want-to-keep-it-the-way-it-was-made... folk.

God bless JR...both of 'em ...and God bless FReepers...each and every one!

At work...15 hours a day for the past 14 or so days as we deal with covering the US Open...so I'm pff my rant and gotta get back to work.

Why not harness that resource and start our own third party with *REAL* conservative principles.

Because the last time that we had a temper tantrum and many of us voted for this guy in the general election:

We ended up with these guys in the Oval Office:

"Did you hear that? They want to do the 'third party' thing again and now get YOU elected President with a low 40% of the popular vote. Are we lucky or what?!?!?"

If you want to have a temper tantrum, have it during the primaries.

As usual, what conservatives are better off doing, is to take proper control of the Republican Party.

In any case, people should get involved (for principle, not for party) in their localities -- inclucing door-to-door, phone-to-phone precinct work.

Your Third Party talk and the other Third Party folks on FR are doing the work of the Democrats only better than
they ever could.

The Third Party gave us Carter and Clinton.
As bad and disruptive as the Rudybots were, the Ron Paul
and that ilk is far more disruptive with their off the wall threads and anti War on Terror dribble.

Third Parties don’t even come close to being Conserviatve.
I will stay with the Conservative Republicans who have more chance of winning their elections than disrupters dividing votes.

We do need to build a coalition with the Perot/Buchanan types, though --- including trade unionists.

But you wouldn’t be handing an automatic victory to the Democrats! Say what you will about any of the R candidates, but the worst of them is far better than the best of the Democrats.

Give it a rest. You also must be against St. Paul because at one time he chucked rocks at Christians.
You folks are so rigid you break conservatives and make possible liberal victories.
