EU Constitution: Next Move?
MensNewsDaily.com ^ | July 5, 2007 | Roger F. Gay

The proposed EU constitution met with defeat in 2005. As predicted (see link in article to left) supporters found a way around the democratic process. They have reintroduced a barely modified version as a treaty to avoid public referenda.

In view of this development, I think readers should be aware of the research and analysis of Vladimir Bukovksy, the 64-year old former Soviet dissident who fears (as I do) that the European Union is on its way to becoming another Soviet Union. In a speech delivered in Brussels (February, 2006), Mr Bukovsky called the EU a “monster” that must be destroyed, the sooner the better, before it develops into a full-fledged totalitarian state. (interview, commentary, and text of speech)

Mr. Burkovsky dug up evidence in now opened Soviet archives that points to a socialist conspiracy; and he puts the author of the proposed constitution, Giscard d’Estaing, in the middle of it. He describes pseudo-democratic efforts to advance their agenda “a trick for idiots. The people have to vote in referendums until the people vote the way that is wanted. Then they have to stop voting.” The speech was given before EU bosses decided to bypass referenda and bring the proposed constitution into law directly against the will of the people.

How can EU citizens stop the political machine from running over them? Changing ideas, especially political ideas, often requires replacing people. That’s democracy. And that’s the piece of democracy missing in the development of an EU constitution. Even if good intent rather than conspiracy is assumed; Albert Einstein provided the wisdom to proceed when he pointed out that problems cannot be solved with the same mindset that created them. It is clear that the process is now controlled by a group of people with only one idea; a previously failed political idea that has been rejected by the more enlightened European population of the 21st century.

What is needed is a demand for special elections that allow the people, rather than the political machinery of Europe, to decide who the members of the constitutional committee will be. Another easy prediction: at least the vast majority elected by the people would be among those who solidly reject the current draft, as well as any “trick for idiots” used to pass a constitution into law.

“....that the European Union is on its way to becoming another Soviet Union.”

He’s probably right.....put it together with the one that “no longer exists” and it gets scary.

He does predict the collapse of the EU, given its current direction.

Sounds like what our politicians are doing here. Except they don't even use treaties (requires 2/3 vote). They use 'agreements'. Like the SPP. and CAFTA , NAFTA etc.

yup - then they can also ignore any human rights related requirements in the treaty - cause it’s not actually accepted as a treaty. Odd thing is; it becomes like an amendment to the Constitution in force - burying any actual Constitutional requirements in its path.

The US also has the “activist” judges problem - transforming large areas of private issue law into “social policy” and “economic policy” on the excuse that they have an economic or social dimension. This blocks use of individual rights arguments, and shifts power to the legislature to create any arbitrary control they wish. Family law is the best known example. Family is now legally regarded as an arbitrary government choice, and nothing related to family is any longer constitutionally protected from government intrusion.

The UN Charter is based on the Soviet Constitution, the EU Constitution is likewise. This is our planned future...

Who really won the cold war?

Events have brought that question to my mind as well. So often I've found politics to be a game of opposites - the public presentation being opposite the actual intent. Is it only coincidence that the US seems sucked into a far left vacuum left by the fall of the Soviet Union?

I suppose it could be coincidence - a showing of results from decades of leftist underground activities aimed at bringing liberal governments to their knees, including the US - finally paying off. If the Soviet Union could have held on a little longer ....

But now, with the EU rushing to replace the Soviet Union - I can't help but think the world is moving to a very dark and scarey place. Once again, all that patience and good will has built, destined to ruin.
