The Final Face-Off ... ( looks like it's going to be Hillary vs. Rudy)
American Spectator ^ | 8/9/2007 | R. Emmett Tyrrell, Jr.

Posted on 08/09/2007 4:37:27 AM PDT by IrishMike

The infallible Washington Times reports that up for sale is one of the most famous scenes of infantilism in the 20th century, "Woodstock." Actually, what is on the block is the late Max Yasgur's New York farm, 38 acres of which were used for the 1969 Woodstock music festival that hagiographers for the "1960s Generation" have ever since boomed as a pivotal event in American history. Such rock singers as Jimi Hendrix and Richie Havens got together before a stupefied crowd of some 500,000 eternal children to sing of peace, and freedom, and mind-numbing substances, even the most feeble of which have now been shown to be extremely deleterious to intellect and spirit. Better it would be to inhale Marlboros than to fool with the proscribed substances that eventually killed or demented many of the singers and attendees in that famous field.

As for "peace and freedom," wars have continued and the specific war that the troubadours of Woodstock had in mind ended only when our Democratic-controlled Congress broke an American pledge to send support to embattled South Vietnamese forces. The North Vietnamese communists beat them. .... Drunk and disorderly rockers never pacified any region I know of, and many have lived irritable and belligerent lives, leaving children and other loved ones in a hell of a mess. ........... As I have been noting of late, the aging 1960s generation -- divided as it has always been by its left-wing and right-wing -- is now facing its political swan song. The Republicans and the Democrats will probably nominate members of this generation to battle in 2008 one more time. Now the face-off is on again, probably with Hillary opposing Rudy.

Wonder how long it will take the Rudy haters to start pouring out their angst on this one?

Right now. Rudy will not be the GOP nominee. You can bank on it.

Hopefully, we’ll make a better choice than Rudy although he still stands head and shoulders above Lady MacBeth.

A win is a win, but I’m a little tired of ‘the lesser of two evils’ stuff.

This guy sounds like a combination Phillip Morris and Yoda. And let me also say, as one who has inhaled marlboros and marijuana, ingested LSD and psylociben mushroooms, marbs are definitely at the BOTTOM of the list. I'd take any of those other substances again before I'd ingest marlboro's addictive poison.

but I’m a little tired of ‘the lesser of two evils’ stuff.

It's politics. It's gubmint. It is inescapably evil. The whole enterprise is a necessary evil. Get used to it.

It's a long time before I'm gonna settle for Rudy.

I expect it will be a long time before the Donks will be willing to settle on Hillary! Rodham (Clinton), as well.

Rudy will prosecute the war and cut taxes, we just need a filibuster majority in Congress to stop any other BS he might try to pull.

I doubt it will, but if it does come down to those two I'll be writing in Moe Howard's name.

Ping that, he’s definitely a good speaker, a little left in leanings, but he’s a damn good administrator, tough, no nonsense, tax cutting, take no lip from the media, or anyone else, tough on crime and terrorists... type dude.

I doubt either one of them will actually run.

We’ll have two other choices. Monica Lewinsky’s boyfriend’s wife would like us to THINK she’s inevitable, but she isn’t. And her vast negatives are going to keep her out of the election.

Rudy isn’t a Republican. That’s why he won’t get the nomination. Maybe vice president; other than that, he’s not national material.

Just my opinion.

angst? Surely you jest. Those you define as "Rudy haters" are not hating, but just making sure we all know the TRUTH about Rudy the Liberal. Calling it hating is nothing but a trick from the leftist side of the isle.

And this:

It will be a bitter campaign with many interesting aspects. My favorite is this: Hillary and the 1960s left-wingers have had to shift their politics to the middle. Rudy and the 1960s right-wingers have not had to shift their politics much at all.

The author is so full of crap. Particularly using Rudy as an example - Rudy sure hasn't moved his position, because his is as much of a liberal as Hillary.

And as far as platforms are concerned - the Democrats are continuing to move LEFT. The only "center" shift is in the facade they put up around election time when they pretend to be more conservative. There is no shift in platform to the right for them. And the farther left they move, they drag the Republicans with them- thus the reason for the rising % of RINOs in the party.

I agree. I don’t think he would cave to pressure and the resistance by the Dems actually might piss him off and make it personal. Unlike Bush, whom I like, but he sure likes to get along and I for one am tired of it.

My expectations of the entire business are sufficiently low. Am I in what? I come from the Mencken school of thought. As long as I’m paying for the gubmint, I’m going to at least get my entertainment dollar’s worth for it. Voting is easier than deciding what to have for lunch. The rest is just entertainment.
