I’m not surprised that Schuller has said one or more things that I disagree with. While I’ve never paid close attention to him, it’s been my closet belief that he was considerably more secular than my beliefs would have allowed me to appreciate.

That being said, I do believe that Schuller has done some good works. His Christmas and Easter programs have probably brought people into a church that hadn’t been in one for decades. He may have led them to return to the church of their choice on a regular basis.

I do have mixed perceptions regarding him, but I do not think he set up his organizations purely to make a buck. He was driven to evengelize. He started out without a church and as time went by, his followers provided the funding to establish what he has.

My point is, one doesn’t have to be a non-Christian to carry out a hate crime at a Christian church. Just as one doesn’t have to be non-white to carry out a hate crime on another white person.

I see, and I agree with you. An excellent example of what you're speaking of are the members of the Fred Phelps clan, who proclaim and believe with all their whatever-that-organ-is-they-think-is-a-heart, that they are 'Christians', and yet they are the perpetrators of some of the most vile hate crimes seen in this Country.

Have a nice evening.

I agree with your belief that Schuller most likely did not begin his evangelism with the intention of making a profit, his motivations (I believe) were sincere. And you are quite correct about his Christmas & Easter programs bringing people into a church setting that most likely had no (or little) previous interest.

I suppose that what I have a conflict with is the message that many Christian religious figures present to their congregations and followers, which is that “doggone it, you are ALL good people, you are ALL wonderful inside, and let’s all hug each other and shake each other’s hands, and tell each other how nice they are, and enjoy our time spent together in this wonderful place”, or a variation on that theme...

The fact is, and it IS a fact because God’s Word says it is a Fact, we are all sinners, we are NOT ‘all nice people’ in fact none of us who have passed that point of accountability where we know the difference between right and wrong and have willfully and wantonly have allowed that sin nature to rear it’s ugly head within our souls and our carnal flesh, and we are in reality depraved and without hope, because ANY amount of sin within us makes us unacceptable to Almighty God, He will not tolerate sin in His Presence, and our One and only Hope is God’s manifestation in the flesh, which is Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the *only* Son of God. Because of His death upon the Cross, because He laid down His own sinless Life for our sins, taking on what should be our rightful and legal penalty (which is eternal seperation from God, spiritual death), we are reconciled to God through Christ, He no longer sees us as sinners, He sees us through the filter of the Blood of His Son, which renders us absolutely spotless and clean.

Yes, there IS good in people, more in some than others, and there isn’t any reason that we can’t acknowledge that, my concern with the Schuller theological approach to Eternity is that there is (IMHO) too much emphasis on the ‘feel good about yourself, and make yourself comfortable and right at home’, and not enough emphasis on the fact that without Christ, there is NO hope for anyone in this world, and that we are not in a spiritual amusement park where everything is rosy and bright, we are engaged in spiritual warfare in a persistent struggle between Good and evil, and fortunately for those who know the Lord, the Victory has already been won, and the fate of God’s adversaries is sealed, from the leader of the original rebellion (Lucifer/Satan), down to the lowest demonic bottom feeder, they’re all going away, and their destiny will be eternal seperation from God, woe unto them.

Sorry for the mini-rant/sermon/whatever, but I believe that all that is needed for Christians today, is to keep their minds focused on Jesus Christ, and remember that what saves them, delivers them, and gives them power over the enemy is the Blood, the Blood, and nothing but the Blood of Jesus.

Bless you my FRiend.

initial investigation indicates that it is the work of an individual tagger or an unidentified tagging crew, Whitman said.

Wow! That's some top-notch "investigation" work right there, let me tell ya.

"We've got several large plate glass windows in the arboretum (that) there's only one glass manufacturer in the United States that still makes it because the building is so old,"

Huh? It was built from 1977-1980.

Yeah, but all the other manufacturers sold out to china...

I saw the tape. My question is an amazingly simple one. Why the hell do people install videocams that ONLY record blurry, grainy images which no one can enhance or get a positive ID from. We can photograph a zit on that puke from Iran’s ass from 100 miles up in space, but we can’t get a positive ID on this mutant!

I appreciate your comments and don’t believe I saw anything in there that I disagree with.

I do have a problem with the ‘feels good’ ‘everything is great mantra’, whether chanted from the NEA or the pulpit.

Mass killers feel good about themselves. It’s a valid moral code, conviction of heart and mind that brings us to Jesus IMO.

I do believe Jesus is the only way and we can’t buy our way in with acts. Acts will none the less be the fruit of a true believer.

Take care.

In a material sense, I’m a very poor person, so I’m sure “Top Shark” has easily given away more money than I have made in a hundred lifetimes. He’s also kept more than I’ve made in a thousand lifetimes. Just remember, a lot of bad people, with a lot of money, give a small percentage of it to the poor. It’s their way of trying to justify their existence to society. I suggest you read Luke 21 verses 1-4. When Robert Schuller lives up to the example of the poor widow then I’ll retract what I said about him. Until then, he’s just good old Schuler the schuck and jive shark. And Sir,how many panes of glass can I put you down for?

I am not a member, and would suspect the cathedral is insured.

You’re free to think whatevery you want about Schuler or any other religious leadery.

I do think it’s a terribly negative position to take.

Later.

Indeed, it is a negative position I take, but not without reason. I’ll give you one of several examples. An acquaintance of mine and his fiancee, (who was a member of Schulers’ church) were planing on getting married at the crystal cathedral and wanted the Reverend Schuler to marry them. They were informed, that if the right Reverend Schuler married them personally, the fee would be $2500.00. However for a mere $500.00, one of his underlings, would be more than glad to perform the service. This guy is as phony as a three dollar bill, and not worthy, of your spirited defense.

In 1974 I was married at a church in La Cresenta, California. I paid the organist $50 and the church $200. I didn’t find that unreasonable back then and I don’t think $500 is an unreasonable amount today.

Schuller is a well known man. If he conducted weddings for free he would have a list longer than the LA phone book. The $2,500 fee isn’t a plan to earn money It’s a way to limit access.

I’m surprised it isn’t more to be honest.
