I wrote my congresscritter concerning BMovement.org and the congressional response.
here was the reply:
Congressman Mark Udall Serving Colorado's Front Range and Western Slope
Dear Mr. Jones:
Thank you for contacting me and expressing your views about how Congress should respond to public controversies involving free speech.
As a general rule, I do not think it is the business of Congress to condemn or applaud statements by individuals or groups. And I strongly support every American's right to free speech. If Congress took time to notice every asinine or unfortunate public utterance, we would have little time to address the serious issues facing our country. But I think there are some rare cases where the views of a prominent person or political organization are so outrageous that public controversy is stirred and Members of Congress are called upon to take notice.
When Move.on.org suggested that General Patraeus was prepared to betray the country, I thought that was wrong. And when radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the term "phony soldiers" I thought that was also wrong.
I believe we should affirm that service members, whatever their rank and whatever their views, deserve to be honored for their service and that those who attack their views should be reminded that they serve not as Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals, but as Americans.
Thanks again for contacting me. To do my job well, I need to hear critical feedback from my fellow Coloradans. For more information about my positions, please visit my website at www.house.gov/markudall and sign up for my email newsletter.
Warm Regards,
Mark Udall Member of Congress
Must not have read the transcripts, still spouting the party line.
Seems to be fence sitting to me.
They never read what you write. They just have canned responses.
I didn’t even get a canned response from Harry Reid.
“And when radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh used the term “phony soldiers” I thought that was also wrong.”
No Congressman, you’re wrong since you obviously don’t know the context in which he used the term.
HE is still quoting Rush untruthfully. That’s the sad part.
The difference is that Rush was speaking truth, and MoveOn was lying through their teeth.
tap tap........
Canned response and he STILL is taking Rush’s remarks out of context. A person convicted for impersonating a soldier is a phone soldier. Udall is a conniving SOB and his letter proves it.
Frankly, Mr. Udall many of the asinine and unfortunate utterances come from Congress.
Typical popous idiot congresscritter ... he should keep his commentary muted if he doesn’t know the facts. Clearly, he doesn’t know the facts so he sticks his dog-poo-shoe in his mouth by mischaracterizing what Rush said and about whom he said it!
Here’s the “m” I left out of pompous. [When someone pops off, stupidly, maybe we ought to have such a word as ‘popous’.]
“Did you try Larry Craig? I bet he’s really good at canned responses.”
He’d just tapdance around the issue, taking as wide a stance as possible.
Mr Udall obviously doesn’t know what a phony soldier is.
Maybe, to help clarify it for him maybe if we called
John F’n Kerry a phony hero
- maybe then he get the message.
I’m still waiting for my canned response from Senators Levin and Stabenow, both of which I chastised for signing a letter originated by Dingy Harry to Clear Channel urging the CEO to make Limbaugh apologize.
They never read what you write. They just have canned responses.
You are so spot on! I am always writing Senator Mary Landrieu. At the end of my e-mail I put please don’t respond to this e-mail because I don’t want to hear your Democratic rhetoric. I just wanted to voice my opinion.
Everytime, I write I get a letter in the mail with her canned responses - most of which I already knew. So, you’re right.

He'll even tap it out in morse code.
Gotta kiss his butt to get a response. Oh, my goodness, when I was writing to get autographs from everybody across the political spectrum for my collection (”the good, the bad, and the ugly”), they just ADORE requests like that and many times I got personal responses that were anything but canned. Harry Reid was sure johnny-on-the-spot with a response to this Tennessean a decade ago. Maxine “Muddy” Waters was even faster.
