Sagging pants trend stirs debate
Sun Sentinel ^ | October 22, 2007 | Gregory Lewis

As cousins Travis and Chuckie Jones stroll off the South Broward High campus on school days, they're "gooned out."

Wearing oversized T-shirts and low-riding jeans, they mimic the hard core look that gangsta rappers first popularized in the 1990s.

The Jones boys' jean shorts, held up by belts, are hanging around their thighs and sag so low that you can't help but see the gym shorts they wear underneath.

"I like saggin'," said Travis, a 15-year-old sophomore.

For him, wearing baggy, ill-fitting jeans, is cool — and makes a strong statement. It's all about attitude.

"It tells everybody to kiss my a--. There are a lot of haters out there," Travis said.

Our "little darling" struts his "stuff" for the boys in the pen...

Well, Travis, it's not hatred, it's just that most people tend to despise idiots.

I see these fools around a lot in some areas of Fort Lauderdale. Each time we drive by them we look for the clown car they escaped from. I do have to say I'm fascinated by the cultural trend to "advertise idiocy".

I guess it's just one of those things. Hard to tear your eyes away from a train wreck and all that.

It's also great attire for job interviews.

I liked the quote by the one guy who said in prison, sagging pants can mean you’re a prison bitch.

The truth is that teen aged girls have the most control over this. If they would point and laugh, this would end real quick.

It’s stupid, but laws against it (like we have in some towns here in GA) are stupider.

” “It tells everybody to kiss my a—. “

Another example of the illiterate youth being turned out by our Public School System —

The correct verb in this sentence would be ‘kick’........

I can’t believe at my age I still get the irresistible urge to give just one more atomic wedgie.

I'm no hater, but they're just asking for it.

The key to changing behavior is to ignore it, thus depriving them of the attention they are seeking.

Otherwise the cycle of bad behavior just escalates.

Hard to tear your eyes away from a train wreck and all that.

The up side of this is when they try to rob you, their baggy, low rider pants make it hard to them to run away....

When I see pictures like this it says to me these kids do not have a lot of self respect and therefore would not show others any respect.

If I were an employer would not hire people dressed like this, no wonder they can’t find jobs.

Another example of a failed culture.

How can anyone look at these idiots and blame their failures on white racism?

Trouble is you see some white kid with the same sort of pants and his oversized ball cap walking into some resturant with his parents.
You want to smack both of them..
Then again the father probably has his ball cap on at the table and his mother has a tank top with...

I recently had a young man come into my place of business looking for a job while wearing sagging pants and more bling than I could carry in one trip. I told him when he bought some clothes that fit to come back and see me, but until then he needed to get out and stay out. I am waiting for a call from the fire dept telling me that my business has burned to the ground.

I know someone who likes the pants like this....

My niece’s husband is a sheriff’s deputy. He says this style of dress makes it easier to catch the delinquents.
