Freeper needs advice: "Background check" websites
12/15/07 | Timeout

I need to do a background check on someone...public records and criminal history. Will pay for a good search.

I've looked at a lot of the web sites, but have read that some of them are scams. Has anyone used a good one? Any suggestions or insights?

Should I just hire a private detective to do it?

Thanks

Just call the Sheriff’s office. You’ll need name, DOB, driver’s licence #.
At least that’s how we do it in FL.

If it is for a job.
You should use someone who does if locally.

We recently had a background done on a potential employee.

The person came up clean but I picked up on some gut feelings in the initial interview.

So I checked with a few good guys who are deputies on the street and at the county jail and bam told not to let the person come anywhere near our business/lives as this individual was known to have recently renew a meth habit just has not broke any laws yet but word was good as I confronted this person and they broke down and cried admitting to using and then went on to blame our community for not being supportive.

If ya smell a rat go with your gut and get rid of it.

Have you used Intelius? It’s on the list I made, but I don’t know anything about it.

Have you tried State Sheriff offices. Don’t they post pictures they have of criminals wanted and incarcerated with some info about them. What about America’s Most Wanted. That wouldn’t be a scam, for sure. Maybe they would give some ideas. Hope you are successful.

Get a licensed and bonded PI to do it.

As a former cop I agree with Cindy.

Is the PI in your screen name what I think it is? Timeout: when in doubt, trust a FReeper.

That's why I posted this! Freepers are a wonderful resource.

I had not thought of contacting the sherrif's department. I'll call them first thing Monday moring.

PS: this has nothing to do with sex offenses. Think "con man".

If you have to do a background check, she is not worth dating. Dump her.

Just kidding.

Looks like you have some good advice. Go with intelius as recommended.

Good luck.

I thought the police hated PIs. Sgt. Becker barely tolerated Rockfish, er, Rockford.

Have you used Intelius? It’s on the list I made, but I don’t know anything about it.

A useless ripoff that has endless "Pay more for a little more info" baits.

It used to be (Zaba? I think) and at that time it worked well.

Now the excuses given are that these sites cannot really do anything "Because of the danger of identity theft".

If he took his training and inspiration from a televangelist, not it wasn't. That red flag turned into a very loud klaxon.
