Late-Breaking Surge for Thompson
National Review Online ^ | 2 January 2008 | Peter Robinson

Posted on 01/02/2008 3:09:35 PM PST by big'ol_freeper

The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)

What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:

Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

"What does ‘I need to come in Second’ mean? How about if Fred does not come in second, what does he need to do?? It is OBVIOUS."

Actually it's only obvious to a mind reader, and since your statement proclaims yourself to be give me the results with percentage of votes.

Can't pull that off?

If you can't, shut up.

“Fred just said he needed to come in third.”

That’s my understanding, too.

I didn’t know if I was behind the curve, with all the “insider” words like “huge” and “series”, etc.

He never said any such thing and your poison is noted.

All that noise and all you had to say is “I’m still supporting the RINO”.

“I have always supported Fred for president. I have just not supported his campaign strategy. I want to see him win, not lose, and I think that will require a change of strategy. Which is what I’ve been saying all along.

You seem to think the way to be “supportive” is to cheerlead for a misdirected campaign as it drives right off a cliff.”

You sound awfully sane.

No...uh...I would not think that as you... you were correct in blaming me. Oh, you are okay.

I am really laughing now. Nothing like correcting your correction. I am being series.

My apologies to the Gap Band but here it is folks, could be a campaign theme song!

don’t you miss it

baby If you miss that train

Don’t miss the Thompson train Oh...don’t you miss it, baby

If you miss that train

Newbie, if Huckabee crashes and burns in both Iowa and NH there won’t BE any competition for him in SC. Media bubbles are a b-tch that way.

You both don't like the way Fred has campaigned but you like his message? Well, shouldn't that be enough?
Well it's enough to make him my candidate (as he has been from the start) but obviously not enough for 90% of GOP voters.

It seems to me it takes great courage on Fred's part to do things his way and not listen to the chattering class. It has served him quite well to this point.
No it hasn't. Fred is in 5th place and single digits now. He may fall behind Ron Paul at this point. It isn't courage, it's foolishness.

You can complain about a few positions or stances, but Fred is a conservative and a federalist. That stands out.
You know what stands out?
His foreign policy experience. He was Chairman of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. He was Chairman for the International Security Advisory Board at the State Department. That is what stands out. But did you even know that?

The fact that most people don't is also what stands out.
The fact that Fred has not made this the central issue in his campaign is what stands out. The fct that Fred has kept his national security credentials the best kept secret of the entire campaign season is what stands out. It stands out as evidence of the most incompetently run campaign in modern American history. It stands out as how the natural front-runner can sabotage his own campaign so bad that he winds up in last place. Gary Hart at least had a good time blowing his nomination.

“Sure, but Fred hasn’t done anything to combat the MSM’s attempt to railroad him. He’s played into it.

A 17 minute closing argument web video for Iowa? You gotta be %@$!*& kidding me! And he took almost 10 minutes to get around to saying anything in it. Unbelievable. Hillary Clinton’s closing argument video is 2 minutes. And she stays focused and direct. She hits all of her points. Fred hardly even touches on his national security credentials in his.

With closing arguments like that, I really wonder how he ever won a court case. He makes me angry because I feel like he’s purposely sabotaging his own campaign — or someone inside his campaign is by deliberately feeding him bad advice. Perhaps it’s his wife because she doesn’t want to have to move to Washington, D.C...”

You know a campaign is in trouble when it picks a fight with Fox News.

How lame. Your "Fred supporter" act as you troll for responses on the Fred threads has been poor from the beginning, but as we get closer to the real vote you are losing it.

You are not a supporter. Supporters pick up the phone and call people in Iowa, send money, or at least make it a point to tell others why he should be President.

You’ve never supported him once. Not once. You have never spent time touting his attributes nor defending him in a verbal brawl. I can’t find any evidence that you have ever posted one solidly positive and unabashedly pro Fred message.

Apparently, you get your jollies by throwing cold water on any positive piece of news which relates to Fred Thompson while claiming to be the wind beneath his wings. To each his own entertainment, but if you consider yourself a good actor, don't quit your day job.

There must be some truth to this. I heard on the local radio (Iowa) just NOW, that people have reported getting automated phone calls bashing Fred today.

Another campaign must have some internal polling that shows him moving up...or else it's Ron Paul.
