Late-Breaking Surge for Thompson
National Review Online ^ | 2 January 2008 | Peter Robinson

The latest news from Iowa? According to Zogby’s latest—and I quote: “Sen. Fred Thompson…has seen a late-breaking surge.” (Rich notes the same poll below.)

What’s going on here? My guess is that there are whole lot of Iowa Republicans who have about the same attitude that David Limbaugh displayed in his column yesterday:

Fred is the only [candidate] I don't have major reservations about….I find his lack of "fire in the belly" refreshing. He strikes me as one of the few presidential candidates since Ronald Reagan whose primary motivation is not personal aggrandizement but rather serving and leading the nation in very troubled and dangerous times. I see him as almost being drafted into this project, and his refusal to drool publicly over the prospect of becoming the most powerful man in the world is positively delightful.

Yep..Rush’s ‘gravitas’ montage was great.LOL Your right that this is another one of those LSM sayings....but we are fools if we buy into the belief that the LSM is impotent. They are not. Not Yet.

I swear, it’s like I’m talking to school children.
And the ones riding the short bus, at that.
Do you believe Fred’s campaign is on target?

Hate to tell you but Zogby was the most accurate polling in the last two presidential elections.

Well I know Fred’s wife has been running his campaign.
And I know his campaign is being run into the ground.
I can only assume then that she is responsible for that.
It’s either that or blame Fred directly.
Because someone is to blame.
Who do you think is responsible for Fred dropping to 5th place and single digits on the eve of Iowa?

“Short version: Zogby makes it up.”

Where power is concentrated, corruption quickly infiltrates. Political polls carry vast political power.

The question is this: how easy is it for pollsters to change the numbers?

David Limbaugh has it correct. Maybe Rush will at least say Fred's name on tomorrow's program. Somehow Rush seems to be mentioning everyone else as if Fred Thompson isn't even in the race. I know Rush will not sponsor any candidate in the primaries, but he shouldn't ignore the only conservative Republicans in the race.

I know! I hate to even savor the flavor for fear of jinxing it! =^) My stars.

Your assignment is to portray as much negativity about Thompson as possible, hoping to convince people in Iowa not to vote for him.

“I am in control. Fred said no such thing yet you talk as if he did. Misinformed? Purposefully?”

As I said, I am under the impression Fred will drop out if he comes in worse than third.

“Either way, noted. I hate people that can’t tell the truth and lie intentionally. Character.”

I hate people who lie, too.
I especially hate posters who make false accusations and bear false witness.
They are scumbags, wouldn’t you agree?

“Would you care to comment on any meaningless, superficial qualities?”

Would you care to comment on what it might take for our party to win back the WH, the senate and the house in any real and meaningful way without the ability to ‘Fire up the Folks’?

What you seem to not understand is Fred is selling a whole package. NOT just one or two talking points. I find it refreshing and do not believe that it has been tried since Ike.

The interesting thing is that in almost every poll for the last two weeks Fred had polled between 10-15%. The others have moved around wildly - Huck with like an 18% swing in some polls. This tells me many are not fixed on one candidate. Change can happen in that environment. I think Fred will finish a strong second tomorrow. The MSM will have to eat $hit and Fox will have to start paying attention. Huck will fade as will Hunter.

I have something very constructive to add — “focus on national security and Fred will turn his campaign around.”
“That’s a hell of a lot more constructive that “Go Fred Go! The Fred surge is going to take off... any day now... then we’ll be in a solid 4th place, right where we want to be, in the meaty center!” You people pretending like this is acceptable or at all a sign of a well run campaign are DELUSIONAL.”

It will nice when Free Republic gets back to normal.

Counter, I can’t believe you’re saying that.

It’s obvious you have not been to one of his live speeches. I just got back (minutes ago) from seeing him in person for the fourth time.

Every single time he does a campaign stop, his primary talking points center around national security and his vast experience.

Maybe you can tap into “chauvinist” sentiments by blaming Fred’s wife, thereby chipping away at his support. It’s a long shot, and probably won’t work, but try it anyway.

Just say anything. You’d better—because Fred is surging.

It is truly amazing that you will attack a consistent, committed conservative but are totally infatuated with a lying, flip-flopping, Culture of Death-supporting, gay-loving, gun-grabbing liberal. I guarantee that says a WHOLE lot about you..LIBERAL.
