Maria Sharapova, the queen of scream

IF you thought Maria Sharapova's shrieking was over the top, you're right. The tennis glamazon makes almost as much noise as a power drill every time she hits the ball.

The Herald Sun asked an Environment Protection Authority officer to measure the raucous Russian with a decibel counter during her match against Lindsay Davenport, the quiet American.

The results proved what was painfully apparent to opponents and fans.

Her loudest shriek was 71.5dB -- louder than a vacuum cleaner (70dB) and approaching the level of a power drill (80dB).

And that was from a distance of 30m.

Whoever marries Sharapove needs to keep a box of earplugs at the bedside. Or he(or even she) can outscream Sharapova.:-)

You would indeed go deaf. Seventy db’s, on a consistent basis, is enough to cause hearing loss, particularly at close range.

It is amazing, the difference in responses to Maria’s shouting and grunting - she gets a total pass from y’all because she’s gorgeous. If some ugly or normal woman was doing it I think you’d all be disgusted. Imagine one of your favorite “ugly lady” tease victims running around going: “Unh! UNNNNH!” But no, Maria’s ok!

Reminds me of the time, this would be in ‘88, when my wife and I went to see THE BLOB remake in the “dollar theater”. It so happened that the audience was predominately teen-aged girls, and early on in the movie THE BLOB makes a surprise kill when it drops from the ceiling onto the handsome young lad you assumed was the indispensable hero of the plot.

The shriek that went up! You want to talk Steam Whistle? Jet Engine? Saturn Rocket? ... All I know is I was in ecstasy.
