OPINION: A New Abolitionism, It is Time to End Abortion
Catholic Online ^ | 7/24/08 | Deacon Keith Fournier

South Dakota is only the first State to pass such legislation. many must follow. The legislation was well drafted and supported by a record of legislative findings of fact that includes unassailable medical science which unequivocally affirms that children in the womb are, in fact, human beings and therefore persons.

The legislation had and still has overwhelming popular support. That is why it survived efforts by “pro-choice” (read “pro-feticide”) extremists to defeat it through a referendum.

Several other States are now said to be ready to follow this example.

Some within the pro-life community have speculated that such a courageous act by a State legislature is ill conceived. I have heard the arguments that the incremental approach stands a “better chance” and that somehow the South Dakota approach will harm the inevitable incremental curtailing of abortions.

I say nonsense!

Human Rights activism always requires an asymmetrical approach. The choice is not “either/or”, it is always “both/and”.

I have long supported incremental efforts geared toward the limitations and curtailment of abortion. I was a practicing pro-life lawyer for a very long time. For seven years in the last decade I led the American Center for Law and Justice which used such incrementalism in securing the protection of pro-life speech.

However, pitting these complimentary strategies against one another is wrong. It also fails to comprehend the gravity of the moral evil that is legal abortion.

That is why I have now chosen to use a new term to characterize my own opposition to legal abortion. It is time for a new abolitionism. It is time to end abortion!

An entire class of little persons, children in the womb, have been relegated to the status of personal property who can be disposed of by those more powerful than they.It is time for a new abolitionism. It is time to end abortion.

I find this response to be deeply disturbing. We are talking about the taking of an innocent human life. The last paragraph also reflects a second evil which is also disturbing, racism.

My father was born in 1924 to a mother who could not afford to support him. He was taken in by a nearby family with limited means, but unlimited love, and the faith that they would find a way. In his 83 years, he has touched the lives of thousands of people who would not be the people they are today without him. Without him, obviously my siblings and I would not exist. The lives that have been, and will be, touched by those people in turn are beyond counting. I am deeply, profoundly disturbed that you would dismiss his life and its consequences so cavalierly, and appalled that you would have the arrogance and smugness to decide that murdering him would have been “worth the sacrifice”.
Furthermore, your concept of a “life of poverty” or a “desperate socio-economic situation” reveal an astounding lack of awareness of the living standards that the human race has experienced. The truth is that what is considered poverty level in the US today would be considered lavish in half of the world today, and unimaginable to any human living only 100 years ago. You have NO appreciation of what your forebears have endured for your sake.
If you think that Black Americans are too stupid or lacking in talent to improve themselves, then SHAME ON YOU, YOU RACIST PIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This country has murdered 50 million people. We did not do them a favor.

We murdered them.
And for that, we will surely burn in hell.

Your post has angered and saddened me as no other ever has.

“If you think that Black Americans are too stupid or lacking in talent to improve”

I never said anything like that, I just think it would be pretty idealistic to think some Einstein would have been born out of all of these abortions that would have magically bridged the poverty gap between the races. If you look at the stats of who get abortions and think that Harlem would be better off with your frigid policies on abortion, your a silly person. The ghetto would be more over crowded and desperate with more people in it, duh!

IF convicted murderers should not be put to death, but instead receive a life sentence—shouldn’t innocent preBorn babies also receive a life sentence?

Seen here at 24 weeks - six months from conception, the unborn child is covered with a fine, downy hair called lanugo. His tender skin is protected by a waxy substance called vernix. Some of this substance may still be on the child's skin at birth at which time it will be quickly absorbed. The child practices breathing by inhaling amniotic fluid into developing lungs.

” (me) “If you think that Black Americans are too stupid or lacking in talent to improve”

(me again) READ WHAT YOU JUST WROTE!! IT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU SAID!!!! You’re calling all the people born in “poverty” hopeless, and incapable of enjoying life, or making a positive contribution. You believe they would be better off dead. How many of these people in harlem do you think we should go out and terminate now? After all, we’d be doing them a favor, saving them from your world of helpless despair. And age of viability is a nebulous thing, anyway, since very few adult humans could survive on their own without assistance in the wild for more than a month.

I am NOT a “silly person”. I am a serious person who cares about people. Don’t ever insult me that way again.

My policies are not “frigid”. They come from caring in a very real way about very real people. How you can conceivably be so cold about murdering 50 million people as a matter of convenience is giving me an aneurism.

You have enraged me.

Meanwhile I was just at a conference in the midwest with 500 families, 90% of which would be willing to adopt those babies that you’re willing to “sacrifice”.

Also, does it even occur to you, or others willing to compromise with feticide, that perhaps fewer would choose the path leading to out of wedlock pregnancy if this “out” were unavailable?

Lets talk common sense, the black population is %10 of the population while their poverty rate is over %25. If it wasn’t for “planned parenthood” the unfortunate class of this population would be twice as high and the self perpetuating ghettos would be twice as vibrant.

Adolph! All these years, and everyone thought you'd shot yourself. But no, Mein Fuhrer, you're alive and well after all.

(I smell a nice, juice ZOT coming your way...)

As someone whose parents were in “dire economic circumstances” when I was concieved, who was born well into the era of disposable children, I’m truly grateful my parents chose to do the right thing. I rather like being alive, thanks.
